I have been having these nagging thoughts about them lately and I am starting to suspect that the with-holding of dt's tax returns is not so much about what he did before but more about hiding the effects of his obvious dodging of the emoluments (nobility) clause. Without a baseline value of his wealth it is very heard to evaluate how much he has been enriching himself during this presidency → I am I alone in this suspicion?

I have always thought that he cheated on his tax returns and he does not want every tax accountant in the US Scrutinizing his returns.
But, I agree with the other reasoning too. I think he has participated in every crooked game he could engage in.

I imagine trump will rue the day he decided to run for president.

I always thought it was because his earnings reported to the IRS and what he claims his net worth are two totally different things.
I think his tax forms will show he is no where near the big billionaire he claims to be (and tells Forbes he is) because he artificially decreases the value of his real estate holdings, or artificially inflates the value, depending on whether he needs to look wealthy or poor. At tax time, he wants to look poor. Then there was the big loss he took when real estate values dumped, which allows him to avoid paying hardly any tax. I'm sure he knows the optics of a supposed billionaire paying next to nothing while the rest of us fork over a good part of our checks to the IRS would be bad. So bad maybe even the Trumpettes would notice.
His dad, who was a multimillionaire, had several schemes to reduce his apparent worth on paper, and managed to transfer almost all his wealth to his kids prior to his death to avoid estate taxes. I'm sure his son is well educated on all the best tax dodges.

Whatever him or his acolytes had financially gained since he’s been occupying the Oval Office can be traced and tracked down to justify. That’s why we have forensic accounting! He didn’t wanna release his taxes because he’s not as wealthy as he claims and would make him look like the clown he is!

Wonder if they can account for all the money he has laundered for Russia.
