The Arabian Dance from The Nutcracker is one of my all-time favourite pieces of music.

Well, my full-time gig is coordinating fundraising for a 501c3 nonprofit cat rescue/sanctuary ... so #GivingTuesday is a big deal for us. We sent out one "email blast" to our mailing list, asking for donations ( cash, buying a calendar, sponsoring a cat, buying some raffle tickets) with appropriate links. We also included some photos of injured cats we've rescued lately. We do not do direct mail solicitations, we do not make phone calls, and we do not use outside/third party fundraisers. We posted 4x yesterday on Twitter, and 4x yesterday on Instagram, with links to donate. On Facebook ( which I also coordinate), we set up a number of Facebook fundraisers and posted throughout the day in a number of locations ( our page, our fan group, an orange cat group, our founder/director's page, etc.) I had posts prescheduled starting at 12:05am and ending at 10pm. Facebook was matching $7 million in donations yesterday, so I posted cute kitten photos all day long. Not counting checks ( which we will receive later) or any matching funds, we raised almost $25,000 for #GivingTuesday. Speaking personally, we do our giving throughout the year. First, I volunteer full-time for this 501c3 nonprofit. I have also spent ("donated") about $3,500 this year to "boost" posts on Facebook so that fundraising ones will be better seen by our fans. Since I was on Facebook ALL DAY LONG yesterday, I also donated to three causes that I follow and support ... Baby Warm (they fund incubators for wildlife rehabbers), a wild bird sanctuary, and our local pet food pantry. The rest of our giving is largely cash-flowed on a monthly basis, though we always have wiggle room in our budget for end-of-year giving.
Anyway, if you like cats and cat rescue, check out our Facebook page (The Cat House on the Kings) and our website at www.cathouseonthekings.com .... there's some great videos on there that explains what we do, and we have a Kitten Cam!

I liked the Giving Tuesday idea. I donate to my special causes year round but it's nice to see reminders up. It's a good way to remind people that not everyone or everything is as fortunate.
I don't answer numbers I don't know and mail solicitations go right into the garbage. Don't do Facebook. So I really didn't have to deal with all that.

We give to a Catholic charity that works in one of the worst neighborhoods in Detroit, the Capuchins, which feeds the homeless, has an afterschool program, tutoring, clothes bank, you name it, and a Jewish food bank which helps refugees and the elderly/homeless/and people with other problems - Yad Ezra. Both are local and have excellent credenials. In fact, I need to make our next donations to both. And, it's not even Tuesday ! And Kudos to everyone for caring and donating.
