Pets at PET Airport make air travel less stressful Volunteer squad of 30 canines and their guardians now on patrol in YUL's domestic and international zones If you're feeling stressed the next time you pass through Trudeau International Airport, look for the wagging tail. A squad of 30 dogs is now patrolling the airport's domestic and international zones. No, they're not sniffing out contraband. The YUL Pet Squad has been on the scene since early October, offering a calming presence at the bustling airport. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/dogs-trudeau-airport-montreal-companion-animals-1.4907130

Love it! I hope we see more airports doing this. When DD was in college they'd bring puppies on campus around exam time, and the students got to destress with puppies.

I want ferrets! LOL Although I do admit they might not be very calming! This is me on a typical day... (my energy level & motivation) I know I need something, I'm just not sure what! -heh.

That’s how my cat normally sleeps. I thought it was really weird but she’s really a laid back cat.

I saw a news feature on my local TV channel the other day that our airport has been doing the comfort dog visits now for the past five years. Seeing I avoid air travel like the plague during the Thanksgiving and December holiday season, I never knew that.

I am another one who avoids air travel during the holidays. (Every day, if feasible. But esp during the holidays!) Not too much of a problem since my immediate family all lives locally.

I don't know the answer to your question. The report was about the Thanksgiving airport travelers, the dogs, and the past five years. I do imagine the dogs will be there for Christmas too. But not on a daily basis 365 days a year. My closest family member is an 11 hour drive away. So flying seems a better way of getting there. Driving back and forth is two days wasted,

Not according to the OP, which is dated Nov 15th, well past our Thanksgiving. "The dogs are there in shifts, and you're most likely to see them on weekday evenings and on weekends."

Not that we went on airplanes when my kids were little, but if we had, this would have been incredibly stressful for my younger daughter. Not everyone is a animal person.

I'm not familiar with the security setup in Canadian airports. Does this mean that there will be pooches for petting after you have cleared security, or only before?

And why would you want to train a dog in that way?
I really like dogs but I'm not sure how I would react to dogs that did not approach me. I prefer to let dogs approach me instead of coaxing them to do so. If there were dogs around and they didn't want to befriend me, I'd feel worse than I would if there hadn't been any dogs around.

This is just my guess... I think it is much like most service animals (police dogs, etc), they are trained to pay attention to their owner, or whatever their job is, rather than constantly be jumping up on people and stuff like that. Most well trained dogs are like that. But I get what you mean. I don't normally approach strange dogs either.
