Afternoon ladies. I've been missing for the month; very busy with my sorority chapter's main event that was held last night. Yeah that is over. I have a sorority conference next weekend. The following weekend, I am planning as a staycation.
Welcome to all the newbies! Happy Belated Birthdays! Congrats to all who are meeting their goals!
We had nasty weather yesterday, though not as bad as the storms in some other parts of the country. I hope everyone is well.
See you in May!

Anyone know anything about the aluminum wallets that protect your CCs from being "read"? Would folding a piece of aluminum around it in your wallet do the same thing? I'm getting almost paranoid about safely carrying my CC in my wallet-- but I love the way my wallet is configured and don't really want a new one.

ses - the article link below takes you to a hack on how to make a duct tape wallet - with aluminum - to protect your RFID cards from being read. Looks like sheet of aluminum will do the trick - you don't have to actually make a duct tape wallet! - but it will explain where it needs to be. Also - remember you have to have cards with RFID chips in them (or a passport). www.rpi-polymath.com/ducttape/RFIDWallet.php

SES - strangely enough I watched a TV show that mentioned this very thing. Yes, lining your regular wallet with foil will do the trick, however, I believe that it's only the "pay pass" cards (which can be read just by getting them close to the card reader) cards that you need to worry about. Why not just call the card issuer and ask if there's a regular card option? To be honest, though I've seen several businesses with the readers, at least in my area they haven't caught on or don't work as well as they're advertised to.
All - thank you for the concern about my financial snafu. I was still in panic/wallow mode when I posted. I've since worked out a deal with my second job to get an advance in pay to cover the shortfall. Now I can go back to panicking about costumes. LOL

It's a really good thing that when I'm stressed I drink coffee and water and not drink alcohol or eat...
work is still trying but tonight was really good. I got a lot accomplished with my minions and I have more training scheduled tomorrow. And blue eyes (i.e. minion #3) will be off work this coming week so maybe I can convince him to do some blog design work ;D
Anywho, the reason for my stress is now online in black and white. I am working with 5 current private clients, 9 small group coaching clients and over 20 leads for coaching deals worth over $100,000. On top of the 500+ clients we have in the on-going large group coaching program or who have bought products in the past who need support.
Maybe now my client will take a good look at my workload and tell the new assistant (aka miss helpless) to suck it up. I'm looking at those 20 leads and getting really frustrated when someone is asking me the same question 4 times a day.
on the good news front I did connect with a past private client who works in finance and has written several books for women. She's interested in writing about the WIR in a few months so I'll be really interested to see how that turns out.

Lost track again this month.
B-day party is over! He got way too many toys. He was so overstimulated last night, he couldn’t play with anything more than a minute or so. I’ll try and post a pic of the cake on here tonight when I get home. I think it was pretty cool. Now DH's b-day is Wednesday and I have a t-shirt for him. I'm getting him the air compressor he wants, but he and his dad are going to go pick it up. Actually DH's parents and mine are going in on it too. I'll go out tonight get him a card and we'll go out to dinner tomorrow.
Ima- Woohoo!!! Congrats!!! You are a rock star and paying for that stuff with cash is great. You can’t just focus on debt paydown. When you move this way let me know if you want to meet up.
Start- Good. I hope that if they see what you are juggling in black and white and what you could/should be focusing on that you will get some relief.
Mcreal- You have gotten a lot of good advice. By the way you are doing great, you've paid down a lot of debt so far. I know it seems like a long way still to go but you can do it.

Update: 9 CS + 6 NS = 15 of 26, 7 of 12 MOANs Likelihood of making my 12 NSDs is low. I've got a dentist appt tomorrow and a scheduled dinner out on Wednesday. It was a fun but busy weekend, and I came in to budget work being due by 10am this morning, so I'm a little fried.
renee: glad you were able to work something out
My mind is fried. I know there was more I wanted to say, but I have no idea what it was.

Paid my fed and state taxes (total of $1698) and DH's truck repair (with taxes and the oil change $632.20). Best part is I had money for it all! Didn't have to dip into savings or cash in my change jar to do it. This is huge for us. It was a real turning point for DH to be on board with this and to have him actively setting money aside so we would be able to pay the taxes.

ses: I've had Sammy for about 3.5 years now. I'm now having to tell both of them to knock it off when they see each other and start growling. I think the biggest thing that's been happening is that Sammy no longer cringes when she sees Topaz. That just sets off an alpha cat. Sammy's been down stairs on her own, every night for the last several weeks, she's not all the way into the living room, but she's getting there. reenee: It'll get better soon.

I am doing well on my goals- posting them in my personal calendar. I was worried at first at the beginning of the month, until I realized that I had allowed for the CS days and also was within budget. I made one budget mistake this month by filling my mother's truck up for her- but it was an emergency and I got my money back right away. I have told my mother she has to go to a budget and stick to it- especially since DB is working now and making better money than me or one of her 2 checks.
HUGS to everyone.

Ladies, I don't know who to tell but I need to tell someone. My fiance and I just met with metlife and we will be able to get both disability and life for $130 less per year than I expected to pay for disability alone. We have started the disability paperwork and will start the life insurance paperwork when we get back from the wedding. The remaining $130/year is going into our Roths. ;D

Update: 11 NS and 5 CS days.
Just dropping in to say a quick hello to al of you. I have a few more days before our Easter break. Counting down until then. We only get a few days off but I could use them. This weekend was a spend one. I did get to the mall and only got a bloouose that changed my CS to a S. Went out to dinner with friends last night-- totally unplanned so it was another spend.
ses -- decided to reread the early books of the series since it has been years before I purchase the new one. How are you enjoying it?
Angel -- PM me if you have time for a meetup while in NO. I realize that with your DH just home that it may not be a possibility. I am not sure what I will be doing then but if you are interested then let me know and I will see what I can do.

Lets see if this works. Here's a pic of the cake. Woohoo it worked. It isn't from the best angle. But the good pic is on the other computer and DH is asleep. Attachments:

We are doing the no screen time week so i am on very minimally. See ya all next week!

Dakota - That's quite a cake! In hindsite, we still talk about the amazing cakes I made the girls when they were young. You have just made a memory for life!
Checking in CS 7/12 NS 11/18
I am keeping to my budget, which to me is a victory. I decided yesterday I would call all cc and comcast and ask for rate reduction. I started with my big one BofA. I spent two hours on the phone with them. They gave me an immediate drop to 9.9% on purchases. But could do nothing with my cash advance portion. 19.9%. So I asked them to explain why, if I make my minimum payment in full, and make additional payments occasionally, and have not taken a cash advance in years, - how is it possible that my cash advance portion would ever increase. Well, after two hours (seriously) of research I find out that they do not apply your minimum payment to your interest on your higher portion. The only way to pay that monthly interest is to pay that amount ABOVE your minimum. The person answering the phone had no idea. He thought (as did I) that your minimum payment applied to each interest charged, then the additional to the lowest interest portion. Not so. I was exhausted when I was done. So now I will have to employ my old strategy to get to the lowest interest. Charge everything (monthly groceries, gas, etc) to the BofA, and immediately make a payment to BofA. It's my own version of a balance transfer. But it will cut my interest in half on this card. I never made the rest of my phone calls. I will keep working on them.

Mcreal, why not stop charging of the card and just continue paying as much as you can?

mcreal - if you never use the cash advance anyway, why are you worried about an interest rate that doesn't apply to you? Or do you have old cash advances on the card that you haven't paid off yet? If you still have cash advances you're paying on, I'd say stop charging the day to day stuff on that card until you've got those paid off. And I thought credit cards were required to apply payments to the oldest/highest interest rate charges first?!

I think the sleepless nights have caught up to me in the worst way. I've been complete unmotivated this morning and since there's no boss to look over my shoulder I've done... nothing. Finally got dressed and went to the grocery store and bought a bunch of stuff.
More water for the emergency stash, I'm up to 10 gallons so if anything happens I can get to the garage and live for a month on water, juice, canned goods and, god help me if it came to this, dog food.
I also found my favorite wine on sale so I bought six bottles. Super cheap to begin with I got 6 x $3.49 (sale price) less discount of $2.09 and plus 60 cents for CRV = $19.45 for 6 bottles of wine. And two will be a house warming gift for the friend who house sits for me who closed on a house last week.
What else did I buy... steak for meals this weekend, tostada shells, milk... then I went to the bread outlet store. The main store has one loaf for $2 and it's half that at the outlet. I've been craving toast for some reason and I don't normally keep sliced bread because I have an abnormal aversion to sandwiches. So bread, english muffins and cookies that remind me of grandma for $6 at the outlet store.
After all that, still have no motivation to work. But I guess it has to happen. Luckily my client has all day meetings in Hollywood with the networks so as long as I cover everything I need to by tomorrow we'll be good.

moneysquirrel-I will let you know if we will be able to meet up. Maybe we can meet up for dinner or lunch or something? I am not sure exactly what day we will be arriving. I know we sail on July 4th, and I am hoping to be able to be in New Orleans by the 2nd so that way we can do some sight seeing around there. I have never been to NO and am really looking forward to it.
Shanenendoah- Long term sub jobs have kept me busy so I don't dwell as much about DH being deployed. The paychecks have definitely helped meet some of our financial goals. I am fairly certain this will be my last job before I move. I will miss the pay over the next several months, but I am really hoping to at least be able to work as a sub in Kansas. I would love a full time position, but I will be happy with subbing as well. We will only be living there for a year and then we will be moving again. We are hoping for Seattle, but I am not going to hold my breath. We will find out in the next 6 months or so where we will be moving after Kansas.

Gin/Reneejune - my strategy involves charging and immediately paying. The immediate payment will go to the higher interest, the charge will stay at the lower interest. Otherwise, if I stay at minimums, my interest on the higher portion adds every month to the principal. It keeps going up. And since it was not my highest rate credit card, I have been keeping at mins for awhile, paying off my higher cards. Now they are gone, and this big BofA card is my target to eliminate. If I can reduce my interest by half, this card will pay off so much faster. Right now for me, every penny counts.

Update: 10 CS + 7 NS = 17 of 26, 7 of 12 MOANs I should have exercised last night. Instead, I decided that my sore right hip and knee should have a nice long soak in a tub with epsom salts. I refuse to regret my decision. I got my braces tightened yesterday, and this morning, it hurts to eat a frickin banana. Tonight, we're scheduled to go to a fondue place with good friends. Must remember to take pain pills before we leave for the restaurant, cut things in tiny pieces, and hope for the best.
Angel: Seattle, yay. I bet if you moved up here we could convince Nitza to come out of her cave and meet for coffee one day.
startsmart: Bout time you took a day off, girl. Hope you enjoyed being a bum for a day. You earned it.
mcreal: Before you start on this plan, double check your credit card's payment rules. On my BofA card, I can only make 3 online payments a month. Make sure you know in advance what the rules are so you can't get screwed by them later.

DS#1 is still ill. Seemed basically fine yesterday (had to keep him home since he was throwing up the day before) We even went to the Children's museum (it was 24 hours after he last threw up) Then last night he complained of a headache and today he said he was dizzy. Sure enough he threw up and has a fever.
AND he shared with me so I feel dizzy also. Some will say that is my natural state.......
So the most school he will have this week is 1 day IF he goes tomorrow. DSS is coming this weekend and has been ill with strep. He will complain the whole weekend about no screen time. DS#1 didn't have any Monday or Tuesday but with the 3rd day home ill and unable to play with friends I lifted it for him.
Calgone take me away, really FAR away.

MK= Hugs that doesn't sound like fun at all.
Mcreal- I'd suggest doing a couple test transactions first to make sure it is working the way you expect it to. I agree with Shan, so CC's do limit the number of payments you can make a month.
IMA- Glad the jobs are helping make DH being deployed easier. And helping make your debt disappear too!

Hey All, I have been thrown under the bus again this month. My only saving grace is that we are paying cash for anything and our going on two years of no cc use at all. At some point we need to grow up and grow our savings beyond Dave Ramsey's Baby Step program! I NEED HELP from any tech savvy word press user: It has taken me forever to figure out how to get my blog up and running and I have it formatted to my liking and I just started blogging. I copy and paste from my word program and that has been working out just fine but all of a sudden the font it is publishing in is wacky. I didn't set the font to begin with, I was happy with however it was publishing before but the last two post are different and I don't know why or how to fix it. Anyone have any ideas or know how? I would REALLY appreciate not having to spending forever trying to figure this out on my own. Dakota: The cake looks awesome! Sheila/Shanen: I have been too busy to comment about the dogs and the kids. I raise my hand meekly to say that I am the grown up version of Sheila's nephew/niece (?) can't remember which one. Anyone, I have had no traumatic experience. We just didn't have any pets growing up. I have been terrified of dogs for as long as I can remember. I mean heart pounding, body shaking, screaming bloody murder if they get anywhere near me terrified. I have made great progress in the last 5 years. Everyone in my bible study group has a dog and it has taken me awhile to get used to the dogs walking near me and even touching me. I am no longer terrified and I no longer scream bloody murder. They can even brush against me and I am okay but I have yet to be able to touch a dog myself. My kids do not have this fear. In fact they love to love on other peoples dogs. They want a little doggy so bad but I just can't get them one because DH is gone the majority of the time and it would be my responsibility-no matter how much I make it theirs, I realistically know the deal-It would not be fair to the dog that I could not give it the love it needs. Anyhow, I just feel like I had to confess. I am not a dog person, or any animal for that matter. Good job on helping them get over that fear at a young age. That will they will avoid being looked at like a freak when they are older and still freaking out-like me on occasion Renee: Glad your situation worked out for you.
