Hi Folks,
The keyboard and trackball on YDS’ 2 year old MacBook Pro have stopped working.
His college help help desk had him back up everything to an external hard drive and then do all the outstanding updates. He did, the keyboard and track ball worked for 2 days and then quit again. The “licensed Apple technician” at the college bookstore told YDS it is a hardware problem and will cost $600 to fix. The bookstore guy said he can fix it there. The closest Apple store is 3 hours away.
A Bluetooth keyboard works sometimes, and then not at all.
Anyone have similar issues and found a successful solution?

YDS just said that the bookstore guy said it is the “top case” that needs to be replaced for $600.

I’d take it to an Apple bar instead, despite it being 3 hours away. Those guys are good, and I don’t believe it’ll be $600.
I drove almost 2 hours for my iPad. I watched them work with one woman’s very old, defunct laptop and they were great. My problem was easy compared to her’s.
