it's been awhile since I've seen a good one, but I think this guy has the potential to become a Darwin Award winner. SC man plans to ride out Hurricane Florence....on his boatLITTLE RIVER, S.C. – Rolling up some plastic windows on his 46-foot cabin cruiser Wednesday, Masten Cloer admitted he was nervous. A new weather forecast predicted Hurricane Florence changing paths to make a landfall near his marina at the border of North Carolina and South Carolina. "I talked to some of the older people down here, and they are worried," he said. Cloer, himself, though, is thus far undeterred. The 57-year-old from Hudson, North Carolina, is planning to ride out the powerful, destructive storm on his boat, named Later, while it's docked at the marina, located on the Intracoastal Waterway about 2 miles from the Atlantic shore of Cherry Grove Beach.

Hope he writes either his name or his SS# on his arm in permanent marker so they can ID him when it's over.

Fox news interviewed a guy on his deck at his house on the beach at Myrtle Beach. He is staying. When asked where will he be, when the storm hits, he said, on the deck watching it........ Now we know he is just bs'ing but still, the thought of actually doing this.........

I think you should do things for people who want to stay, like show them film of what storm surge looks like. Even show video of what a drowning victim looks like. Those people who want to stay don't have a clue. It's a shame for their extended families that they'll be trying to find their bodies when all of this is over.

I remember seeing this ad before the next hurricane after these recordings*, I think these are from Hurricane Ivan. Some people never listen though. *does that make sense?

Eh, I'm of the opinion you get to do whatever it is you want - as long as you've been made aware of the consequences and aren't being coerced or forced to do it - with a caveat - knowingly/willingly doing stupid things to oneself and ones possessions is ok- as long as no (or very few other) people have to pay for their stupidity when it doesn't end well.
In the case in the OP... I'd add that by staying the guy (and his family) should be giving up any ability to sue or forfeits any insurance payouts. And any recovery operations should be of the variety - we'll get to it when we get to it... your poor planning doesn't make it our emergency.
