I don't agree with much of his politics, but I respect this man and his efforts to make his country a better place. wishing peace on his journey. People.com linkJohn McCain Discontinues Medical Treatment 'With His Usual Strength of Will' as Cancer Progresses
Sen. John McCain will no longer be seeking medical treatment for stage-four brain cancer, his family announced on Friday. In a statement released on Twitter, the McCain family explained that the 81-year-old politician — who was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer with a median survival rate of just 15 months, in July 2017 — made the decision. “Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had ben diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious,” the statement said. “In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.” “Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the last year, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John’s many friends and associated, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers,” the statement continued. “God bless and thank you all.” ****more at the link above****

I can't help but wonder if McCain hung on until he saw Trump start to run off the rails, and now that he got to see that, he's fine with exiting peacefully. Trump was an ass to McCain, especially when he dissed him for being a POW. Says the guy who managed to avoid military service due to heel spurs.
I always admired McCain and would have voted for him for POTUS if he hadn't allowed his advisors to talk him into picking Palin as his VP. He has certainly devoted himself to service to his country, in many different forms, and was one of the old breed of politicians who knew how to negotiate across the aisle to pass legislation that the majority of the US citizens could get behind. A lost art.

I hope that McCain's last days are filled with peace and much love. He's a hero in my eyes, a real champion.

While I hated his politics and choice of a running mate. I respect him as a patriotic American hero and a decent man. My respect for him soared during a campaign event when he corrected a woman alleging that Obama was a Muslim.
I hope his last days are filled with family, love and peace.

I may not have always agreed with his politics, but he really was a good man, and an American hero! And I believed him to be more honest than a lot of politicians, and willing to compromise. I didn't vote for him, but if he had chosen a different running mate, he may have won, and probably would have been a decent president. I hope he just relaxes and stays comfortable, surrounded by loved ones! Poor guy needs some R&R!

That seat has been filled by a couple of Titans, Goldwater and McCain since 1969.
We need more people like John McCain in public office, I’m going to miss him and wish his family the absolute best.

Like other posters I didn't always agree with his politics but respect him as a person and a true American hero. I remember when he lost the 2008 election during his concession speech he mentioned Obama and a small portion of the crowd start to boo. He quickly put a stop to that in a polite way by saying we need to respect him, he ran a good campaign and he won. I always appreciate classy responses like that in those situations because you know the person who lost is probably at one of their lowest of lows and that speaks volumes to their character.

What kind of horrible crap will trump say about him. trump is the lowest of low in my book.
Nothing that happens to trump is to bad. Seeing him get poorer would make me happy instead of being able to nonchalantly pay off women and all the other bad stuff he has done like cheating workers out of wages and who knows what else. I hope they get him for all the fraud he has done in his life.

I am guessing on the day of McCain's funeral... probably National Cathedral...guessing first lying in State in the rotunda of the Capital, allowing the American public to pay last respects...Bush and Obama asked to give eulogy...Donald's been asked to not attend...wonder if he would still crash it... he will offer condolences, tweet some nice words...the hypocrite, after all his yapping about McCain doing a thumbs down at 2 AM...and fly down to resort in Florida...play some golf during McCain's funeral... Am sure Obama and Bush giving the Eulogies and he having to be absent , no don't believe he will crash it...will bug him big time...A very big rebute….

Dems care far far more about him that they do "about some girl in Iowa".

I read about Senator McCain at work today. I'm so sorry about the pain everyone is going through.
May the blessings he believes in comfort him and his family during this difficult time.
