only if Democrats are smart. clue: they aren't. "You've got a kind of perfect storm here," Collender said. "You've got more spending. You've got less revenue. And the deficit is just getting bigger and bigger, to the point where it will be at least a trillion dollars every year during the Trump administration and beyond." how do i know? because this article is almost FOUR MONTHS OLD. JESUS, Democrats are dumb. here is how they should play it: just like the GOP did.... "of course the economy is good- you have $1T in unfunded Federal Stimulus a YEAR right now. the GOP bitched and Moaned when Obama did it ONCE. what will they say when the GOP does it for EIGHT YEARS?"

I agree that "our current POTUS is an idiot" isn't going to make a great campaign slogan, even when it's true. We have to go back to "it's the economy, stupid", to get people to pay attention. Or, how about "the GOP F'd up the deficit" for a slogan?

Meh, the GOP only cares about the deficit when a Dem is in the White House. Even on this board, there used to be constant gripping about the deficit when Obama was president.
Now, with the deficit spiralling out of control, the silence is stunning.

I'm not sure that platform is on stable ground. There are a lot of better messages.

Since the majority are doing ok at the moment....they won't pay any attention to that message. Wait until all the tariff stuff hits more and they start waking up when their jobs disappear, everything costs more...cars, washing machines, etc...and groceries are so high they can barely buy enough to feed themselves. Enough of it "might" hit in time to make a difference at the midterms.

WHEN the economy eventually tanks, programs will have to be slashed to keep us from having a dollar crisis. or taxes will have to be raised- when there is ZERO will to do it. the time to raise taxes is actually NOW. but what is doofus doing? THE OPPOSITE.

Isn’t that the GOP plan?

The new Tax Bill cost $200B / year. And the recent GDP 4.1% adds about $800B to the Revenue stream. Seems like your Bumper Sticker might not work real well?

Seems like your Bumper Sticker might not work real well? new math? what is the tax take on that $800B? 15%? so that is $120B. so, yeah, the NET impact of that tax cut is about $100B. then you add in the extra spending, which was $400B. so, how about this for a Bumper Sticker: "Tax Bill + Extra Spending = $1/2T in 2018 Nothing Worse Than Tax and Borrow GOP"

Considering the Reagan tax cuts enabled a near tripling of the national debt and the BushCo. tax cuts enabled a doubling of the national debt, I'm wondering why any rational American thinks this round 3 of tinkle down will work any different. More laugher curve.

I guess the repubs scream louder then the dems. We don't seem to fight back like they do on their horrid messages.
We are going down the tubes, if china doesn't take this debt we are in for double digit interest rates.

I don't understand why the people at average income level are so offended by the idea that they will raise taxes on households that have income over $250k. How do the tax cut defenders convince someone struggling at 40k that his life will be better if the guy in the big on the other side of town has disposable income of 225k instead of 210k.

More laugher curve. it makes perfect sense that every tax cut reduces revenue when you are to the left of T* (assuming that you believe that hopelessly flawed theory). but in case you don't believe it, you can always peruse the OTA Paper 81, which is THE authoritative document on the subject (and backs me up, 100%).

Isn’t that the GOP plan? it depends on how deep you read into it. on the surface, their plan is bread and roses. but yes, i think their actual plan is a Trojan Horse filled with poisonous snakes.

If it wasn't a big deal two years ago, for sure is not now! let's not go back that far. how about a year ago? a year ago, the deficit was $672B. which sux. really awful, right? this year, it is projected to be $1223B. which is the third worst in history. so, two things: 1) deficits are never really OK, but they are accepted during recessions. i disliked Obama's spending during expansion, and i disliked his failure to raise taxes during expansion. so, count me as a detractor. 2) DOUBLING the deficit at the PEAK of our economy is criminal. clear enough?
