Re: the maps at the link I like the contrast between the cartogram and map for The House results. The color difference is striking. In his majority decision, Chief Justice Earl Warren said “Legislators represent people, not trees or acres. Reynolds v. Sims

it looks like CA 21 might turn Democrat. this was an interesting race. in some senses it should have been an easy pickup for Democrats, because of the high concentration of Latinos in the district. but the GOP incumbent is Hispanic, and was expected to win EASILY.
NYT put this one in the tossup column yesterday, and 538 says it is "likely Democrat": there are actually three unresolved house races. Democrats are expected to win two, and end up with 235, which is the "perfect flip" that was on the very outer fringes of what i thought possible this cycle. it will be interesting to see how the last unresolved SENATE seat goes today.

I'm expecting Hyde Smith to win. But hoping she doesn't.

I just read an opinion piece by a political writer from Indiana. We know we did not have a big red wave across the country earlier this month. In Indiana we did. All major state offices went red and the state house went very red. The Republicans hold more control statewide then they ever have in decades. Got rid of a democratic Senator to boot! Indiana generally has one demcrat and one republican Senator. Eleven of thirteen House of Representative seats are now Republican.

Wow, Tonight's Missisippi Senate race is not going well for the democrats tonight. I thought it was advertised as being a close race. With 59% in, Smith is leading Epps by 11 points. Not sure where the remaining votes are coming from at this time.

Sure he is....the soap opera hasn't stopped from day one..... …... and now we seem to have lost 14,000 good solid paying jobs with General Motors decision...closing so many plants...the steel tariffs seem to be causing some problems...stock market is tanking.....any good news on the horizon?

My perception was based on fake news MSNBC and CNN claiming for weeks this was a nail biter as they tried their hardest to get people to vote for Epsy. People other than dj and you do not depend on polls for info. They depend on cable news outlets.

People other than dj and you do not depend on polls for info. They depend on cable news outlets. you are missing my point. every time you mention the polls, you say how "wrong" they are. you diss and dismiss them. i was going to qualify that and say ALMOST every time, but i can't remember a single time you said "wow, the polling on that was really accurate". like here, for example. rather than saying "yeah, the polls were really accurate" you said "polls schmolls". but the polls were SPOT ON, VB. so, here is my suggestion to you and the rest of America that seems to think that pundits know something that data doesn't: turn off your cable news and read the data. but if you can't do that, then AT LEAST acknowledge when the data is RIGHT.

the NYT just put NC9 into tossup column. there is an outside chance that Democrats will end up with 236. however, i am not changing my numbers, as the odds are low that Democrats will win that seat. just FYI.

the NC election board refuses to certify the election in the 9th district due to allegations of voter fraud: One report I heard said there was no evidence of "voter fraud". It was vote stealing and election fraud. The GOP had a scheme where they had someone go to houses to pick up absentee ballots and then rather than mail the ballots, give them to a GOP operative instead. One of the local news stations says it consistently found the same people signing as witnesses for absentee ballots, which is unusual.

The GOP candidate only won by 700 votes.

Wisconsin is just copying what worked so well in NC (until the courts found it unconstitutional).
As Thyme said, fucking the will of the people.

Satire from The Borowitz Report Iraq Offers to Help Establish Democracy in North CarolinaBy Andy Borowitz BAGHDAD (The Borowitz Report)—The government of Iraq announced on Tuesday that it would seek to build an international coalition to establish democracy in the state of North Carolina. Speaking to reporters in Baghdad, the Iraqi President, Barham Salih, said that Iraq had reached out to regional powers including Canada and Mexico to launch a military invasion of North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District to “protect the North Carolinians’ right to self-determination.” While many in the international community commended Salih’s desire to bring democracy to North Carolina, some critics warned that the effort could wind up destabilizing other American states. Any minute now I’m expecting this board’s greatest advocate that there is rampant voter fraud in America to reappear like a toadstool and shockingly admit it’s the Repos that are doing it.
How refreshing a moment that will be when he finally attaches himself to some truth about this key issue in our country. Glory days!

More of the breaking news story here: Iraq Offers to Help Establish Democracy in North Carolina I enjoyed this article about Wisconsin: The onion satireMADISON, WI—Passing the measure along party lines, the GOP-controlled Wisconsin legislature voted Tuesday to dissolve the 30th state admitted to the union rather than let governor-elect Tony Evers and other members of the Democratic Party have it. “This essential legislation officially dismantles the State of Wisconsin, thereby ensuring Democrats, who won every statewide executive office on the ballot last month, will have no legal authority within its borders,” said Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, explaining that it would be reckless to honor the fair election of Democrats to the state’s executive branch and far preferable for Wisconsin to cease existing and become instead a lawless wasteland of snow and ice. “While we cherish the past 170 years of statehood, there is simply too much at stake right now to allow the clear will of the people expressed at the polls to ruin Wisconsin by putting Democrats into positions such as governor and attorney general.” At press time, the Republican-led legislature had passed a follow-up resolution naming outgoing Governor Scott Walker the Eternal God-King of the former state of Wisconsin.
