I heard the anything bigger than a cellphone out for screening on Monday at BWI. Didn't hear anything about snacks. I have pre check so all of my stuff stayed in.
The only thing I heard in New Orleans today was empty your pockets and get liquids out. Nothing about larger electronics or food.
My aunt's almonds were of great interest at Knoxville a couple weeks ago. She forgot there was anything in the bag and they were asking for all food out. They searched the bag by hand until they found them.
My pre check looks like a better value all the time.

First my shoes! Then my water!! Now they want my Twinkie? ......... The TSA is gonna do me in! Airport screening is zeroing in on our snacks!! (Washington Post) OMG, we are going to have to live with that tiny little bag of airline pretzels or peanuts? A Pox on all those terrorists! A Pox I say! This is getting up close and personal!!

Last fall I picked up a Moon Cake from a little Vietnamese market right before my flight home from Denver. I had it in my carry-on and it was flagged going through the x-ray machine. They dug it out, verified it was cake, and sent me on my way. They said the density causes issues so they can't tell what it is with the machine. But, it made it home and my son enjoyed it. This was even being a pre-check flyer.

I think they are just checking them - not confiscating the little Twinkies! And from what I read it isn't consistent thru out the airlines. Some are doing it and some aren't. I may be the only person who doesn't carry snacks with me when I fly but the longest I've been in air was 5 or so hours well except charter flight to Madrid and that was totally different from commercial flying!

You don’t want to be labeled the Twinkie Terrorist?
Airlines don’t determine the rules, TSA does. It varies at different airports, doesn’t matter what airline.

I didn't take anything notable through early this year, although my sister convinced me to take the remainder of my baby carrots in my purse instead of giving it to one of them. I did have pre check which was nice.

The vendors in the airport will win on this one with people buying snacks. I was so glad when they closed most of the airports to anyone going in before going through to your waiting area. I used to see droves of pickpocket teens roaming around with a handler who would point out the "mark".

hmmm ……… now I'm remembering
Last year going to Ireland I filled sandwich baggies with mixed nuts to snack on, and going through security they opened my bag and looked at them. Said everything was fine because I had them in clear bags. This is in Phoenix.
Didn't think anything about it. <shrug>
