That's the exact thought I had today morning when I saw this.

Awarding and collecting are two different things.

Well, at least the good news is he's young and should be able to recover really well. There's always someone out there who has it worse.

I wonder how much of that judgment money he will ever receive. He deserves every penny of it.

He might not collect, but at least he got some justice for being royally screwed over. She's going to have this hanging over her head forever.

I do like that the judge threw an additional $50k in.
He may may not get the money, but this judgment is going to make her life difficult. Good.

From the article: Eric Abramovitz: Ben Platt (played Benji in Pitch Perfect): Detour over. Back to your regularly scheduled program.

The part I don't understand is not why she did it--it sounds like she didn't want him to transfer away from her, which is stupid of her, but as someone whose college selection process largely consisted of asking "where's my boyfriend going?" I understand--but why the hell did she think he would never find out? Or did she even care?
Did she think that if he found out ten years down the road he would laugh and say "aww, I guess we were meant to be together!" instead of throwing her stuff in the yard?
Boggles the mind. And it's impossible to put a dollar value on what she took from him.

A horrible thing to do to your "boyfriend".
I do hope he gets the money someday. I hope the publicity from this will help him in his career.
Her selfish actions changed his life.

Not sure I would call it LOVE - obsession maybe? "not sure" That was elegantly understated.

I'm pretty sure that he will go much farther in life than she will. This is gonna follow her for sure. Employment applications used to just ask about felony convictions, etc. but now some ask about civil judgments against you.

Judgements and bankruptcy are the worst hitters to your score and at least a bankruptcy drops off in 7-10 years. This judgment will be on there until she coughs up 350K.

And it's impossible to put a dollar value on what she took from him. he almost didn't! if was only when he applied to a different program a few years later with the same instructor - who asked him why he was trying for this when he had already rejected the instructor (previous offer had been a full scholarship to study with him)' It is only because of this she was caught - if it had just been a regular school thing, and not tied to a specific teacher relationship - no one would ever have known.

He'd been studying for this since age 7 and you think your 5 month relationship entitles you to his presence over his career?

Me too! But in a way, I'm kind of glad it does. That reassures me that my mind doesn't typically think that way and that I haven't become so cold-hearted that I either don't care or don't notice. It doesn't seem like this is the kind of thing you do, if you really love someone. Call me crazy, but I would be trying to help them attain their lifelong goals. I'm glad he didn't just get angry, then let it go. He did something about it.

People like that just hone their skills on each bully episode. I know of a Canadian company that reward people who undermined other employees. One was a woman who stole identities and presented herself as someone else. Ditto for her H. And one or two instances where someone tried to plant drugs on one of the managers vehicles. Those people are seriously deranged.

How sickening someone would do that to someone else Beyond my comprehension Hope his career soars and she goes down the tubes into oblivion I reckon it probably will. What I've read indicates he's talented and focused. And while you can't judge a book by its cover, just look at that face and smile. He doesn't look like a victim. He looks like a winner. In addition to his soaring career, I would not be surprised if he soon appears on a talk show. Ellen, perhaps. If so, I predict he'll forego an appearance fee in lieu of instruments being donated to his HS or some other charitable act. I can't wish ill on anyone, so I'll hope she looks inward at some point in time and reassesses her own life and misdeeds. And I'll hope that no one else falls prey to such devious and selfish behavior.

It's still going to be on her credit report forever. You don't have to run a background check to see there is a judgement that has been sent to collections. Every time she tries to get a loan or rent an apartment it's going to pop up.

I just know a past neighbor of mine that embezzled 100K from a dairy farm she was working at claims it's still on her credit report. It's been 18 years. She pays a whopping $100/month restitution. They haven't been charging interest so it's not going up, but she'll never pay it off.

Divorces show as a judgment, so... -just saying. On your credit report? Why? Neither of mine ever were on there. This is what I found online (quick Google search): "Divorce can affect many aspects of your life, but one thing you may not have considered is how it affects your credit score." www.nerdwallet.com/blog/finance/credit-cards-divorce-hurt-score-joint-accounts-bills-pay/It doesn't necessarily go against you, but it is there. All I know is that when I went through my first divorce 35 yrs ago, I found out that it shows as a judgment. It doesn't specify what type of judgment. Or at least that is what I was told (more than once.) I have asked other attorneys if it is true and they have all said yes. So I thought I would pass the info along.
