My GrD3 is getting married at a farm in September. I am planning on wearing a denim suit that I wore for work y.a. Do you think it's okay? I feel denim does not go out of style. Seating could be straw bales. Dance will be at a country club 1.5 hr drive.
For GrS2 wedding last summer, after a badly broken wrist a few weeks before, I wore a print long skirt, matching color top and white denim vest. I changed to a short quick dry skirt for the dance. I danced even though doctor said not to.
Yes or no on denim?

Yes by me, but I'm a country gal & believe in being comfy! Have fun! And denim would be a lot better than other fabrics to sit on hay/straw bales....brushes off easily!

A lot of views and few responses, I am saying they agree. My DIL wanted to get married in white denim. Her sisters took over and they all have beautiful slip dresses and shows for around $30 each. I was amazed. DIL was hurt because her want was high jacked.

No one wants to tell you that a denim suit has never ever ever been a good thing.

I've never even seen a denim suit, but it sounds like you know your crowd and what will work for this wedding.
Maybe other brides are different, but people's presence meant more to me than what they wore. In fact I hated guests asking me how to dress and would just tell them to dress how they were most comfortable.

I think you can do better than a denim suit.
A sundress and a little sweater might be appropriate.

I've never seen anyone wear a denim suit, so no idea how it looks! Can you post pics Artemis Windsong?

No one wants to tell you that a denim suit has never ever ever been a good thing. I didn't even know it was a thing. Absolutely not! Burn the denim suit.

No one wants to tell you that a denim suit has never ever ever been a good thing. It's at a country club, not a hoe down. Go get a sheath dress or sundress. JCPenney and Macy's generally have good sales. Even Old Navy has some sundresses.

I found the sundress I wore to an outdoor wedding at Wal-mart on the clearance rack for $9.
If the mental image I have in my head of "denim suit" is correct then no it's not appropriate for a wedding, even an outdoor one. You can do better.

Seriously though, denim at a country club is a faux pas.

I'm wondering what designer would even put their name on a denim suit.
Do you have a picture of it you can post? I kinda really want to know what it looks like now.

I had to google it. They aren't all as '80s as you'd imagine.

it's a barn wedding, not a country club wedding. I'm thinking a nice maxi dress should be good.

When DH's nephew got married in a farming community all the men in the wedding party wore black farmer coveralls with white shirts and white boutonnières.
Bride wore an informal traditional wedding dress.
Beautiful wedding and everyone had a great time.
To me what is pictured is a nice looking pant suit that happens to be made of a dark color denim.
Demin pants will keep the hay stickers from jabbing you.
Have fun at the wedding

I'm assuming that you are in a rural area. That makes the fashion requirements for a wedding substantially different than many of the rest of us.
With that said, if your plan is to wear a dress or suit that is 10+ years old, I would revisit that, if only because the style is likely to be outdated. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it is nice to look somewhat current, if only for the photos.

I say wear a casual dress. You wouldn't wear your hair in pig tails because it's a barn wedding, right? I think the key word is wedding, not barn. When people have beach weddings, people don't come in bathing suits.

I will recruit GrD3 to take me shopping. I'll show her the suit first.
The skirt is gathered waist mid-calf length. The jacket is loose fitting with low square pockets. I like to one posted here. I am not that slender. Thanks for the advice.

Barn wedding does not always mean casual. Fancy barn weddings were all the rage a couple years ago, and I had a coworker that had one that was formal dress for the wedding party, I’m not sure about guests. So figure that out first. Your GD should be able to give you guidance.
And I have never heard of a denim suit.

But, if it is a granddaughter’s wedding & you will be in pics, I would check w the bride to see what she thinks. One of my niece’s got married in Vegas and had siblings, parents & grandparents at the wedding, then had a casual celebration at a VA hall. We did all wear jeans.

One of my friend's DGDs got married at her barn. Everyone was in casual dress and it's a good thing cause it started raining and everyone had to run for cover. Bride had on a full length dress, but wedges on her feet and once they said "I do" & kissed, the groom grabbed her & ran for the house porch & cover. The groom & grooms men were in kakis & white shirts, all the bridesmaids picked out their own sun dresses in pastel colors. The pictures she sent...it was beautiful. They had put down a canvas runner for the bride to walk down the "aisle" and the seats were old church benches.
Art, go shopping, but pick something comfy. Sounds like it might be a long day.

I would love to have a beige linen suit. I used to have one and recycled because of how old it was. I have been looking on Walmart. They do have some nice dresses. I would like a solid color so a pattern cannot date it. I wore a salmon color high/low skirt to my GrS2 rehearsal. I caught the hem on a purse buckle that nearly tripped me. Then for the wedding, his MIL wore salmon.

Do you have a Ross or Marshall's close by? They have some nice stuff on a budget if that's what you need. I usually have better luck at Ross. I have some very simple sheath dresses I got from JC Penney on clearance. They're sleeveless, so perfect for this time of year. I got them with a gift card that Thing 2 got me for mother's day last year, so it was around this time as well. I dress them up too for work. I even wore one of them today.
