Dannylion posted on another thread. She's fine; she does live in the area, but I believe her house is on significantly higher ground. Ken O.M.K. is also in that general area, but I've seen him post as well, so I think he's fine.
I've visited Ellicott City several times (I have family in Baltimore) and know that downtown very well. I cannot believe that in almost two years since the last flood, the county and state did nothing to alleviate the possibility of this one. Oh, wait. They analyzed the problem and proposed solutions and were working on a flood warning system. Not a prevention system. Yeah, that's gonna help you as you watch your newly rebuilt business float down Main Street. This is an historic town that deserved better, and the politicians yakked about solutions instead of putting them in place.

Heard the same thing. The warning system was to be installed next month.
Oh well.

Heard the same thing. The warning system was to be installed next month. Oh well. Just in time for the next installment of the 1,000-year flood.

Thanks @nancyssummersip.
I've been working the past two days and just heard about it all. Heartbroken for everyone. I can imagine some won't rebuild a second time. It IS a cute little town. One of our "go to" food allergy friendly restaurants is in Ellicott City. So sad that government cannot address such issues in a more efficient manner.

Thanks for thinking of me, GRG. I'm fine. My neighborhood was spared the worst of the flooding, so we are grateful.
The damage in the historic area is much worse than 2 years ago. A couple of buildings of some significance actually washed away, and it looks like all the business that had worked so hard to repair the damage and reopen were wiped out again. Also, a big chunk of roadway in the historic district washed away. It's really sad.
Some of the major roads outside the historic area flooded this time as well. There was so much water falling from the sky in such a short period of time that the drainage systems just couldn't handle it.
There have been no confirmed fatalities, but one man is missing and there is considerable concern for him, so that's the worst news of all.
