They have called me about 22 times. When I tell them this, they hang up. This is the one that very nearly got my BIL upstairs. He was viewing porn on my sister's family computer and messed things up. So one day he gets this guy phoning him and he gives him his credit card number. My sister came and got me to straighten the mess out. I got up there as BIL is going into a Pay Pal account so his credit card number could be put in there. I shut it all down and BIL was so angry cause he actually thought this guy was helping him. See BIL didn't know that we knew all about his porn habit.

Ask them which of your 4, 5, 10 or more computers in your home is infected.

A good site to use (I use it) to see if others have received aphone call from the same number as you just did is 800Notes. Save this website for future use for any othercalls you receive if you have caller ID on your phone. 800Notes

If I don't recognize a number, I don't answer it. If they really want me, they will leave a message. If they don't, I google the number. 800Notes usually pops up and some are not even 800 numbers. I went through my dad's missed calls the other day. Amazing who has been calling him. All kinds of political surveys. We have the answering machine turned off since he doesn't know how to use it and people think he got the message if they leave a message. He doesn't hear well at all so he can't get in too much trouble if he does answer. He usually tells me he can't hear me.

When I get those calls I tell them I don't have a computer. I usually have to say it a couple of times before the very heavy accent can understand what I'm saying.
One time I asked where they were located and I was told 'all over the US'. Then I asked where HE was located and he told me Calcutta.

I love the ones with the heavy Indian accents with very American names like Richard and Mary. Well, of course your Calcutta-born parents would choose a name like that for you. How sweet. You scumbag, slimeball, bottom-feeding, lazy-ass liar.

You scumbag, slimeball, bottom-feeding, lazy-ass liar. Some call centers in India which do legitimate business with U.S. companies do give their call center agents English names. Many customers do ask for the agent's name when calling in a concern. Easier for the agents to say 'Bill' or 'Susan' than 'Ehaan' or 'Aaryahi'.

They called me 2 days ago. This time they said they were from Comcast. It was the first time I'd heard that, and I really was expecting a call from Comcast, so I almost fell for it. The strong accent combined with what he was telling me my computer was doing, gave him away. When I said I don't believe you are from Comcast, he got very upset and said "Okay. Well, how about if I "F" you then?!" (He used the actual word.) He was still swearing at me when I hung up. -I guess he felt like he had nothing to lose. The following day I got a real call from a Comcast supervisor. I almost ripped his head off! LOL I apologized and explained what had happened. He took the info and said he was going to investigate. I hope he really does investigate and that he catches someone! I have replaced the "escape" key on my keyboard with a red key that says "panic". I guess I need to change it to one that says " SCAM".

I am ashamed to say that I fell for the deal and was lucky to get out of it...Computer seized up and got this message supposedly from Microsoft insisting have to call to save permanent what ever...did so...got this foreign voice.[am guessing Indian] offering to unfreeze clean up computer...desperate I did ...cost wasn't to bad and will say fixed computer and when called later date with problems they took care of those too...Since it would have cost me as much or more to bring in for repair...and being computer illiterate beyond turning on and off...thought good trade off... They claim a authorized contractor outlet of Microsoft.... Got a phone call from who thought same company, not sure if was , offering me a rebate $150.00 or so because they no longer offering what ever...for some stupid reason gave them access to electronically rebate $...get a call from wells fargo asking if I authorized a payout of $550.00...told them no, Daughter calls me...she has authority to watch over my accounts and stuff asking about this transaction...told her no...called bank fraud department..put a stop to the transaction...took a while but finally the transaction never happened... I know, stupid, stupid me...asked them at beginning to just send me acheck for this rebate...they said they couldn't yadfda, yadda and to be honest...I can afford to not get such a rebate..no biggie..but was tempted..human nature..I was lucky...have been called again by original people...they claim it wasn't them but I am not nice on phone so recently no more calls...last time offered to mail me a check...still waiting..I know , mail is notoriously slow...LOL

I like to tell the microsoft ones that i run linux (partly true. Linux at work and a dual boot system at home).
Bottom line though, microsoft doesn't have the ability to magically see what's going on with your computer - unless you ALLOW them to remote into your machine. And for pete's sake, don't allow *that* unless you have called them!
I also enjoy the robo calls from the "IRS" threatening the police. lol

Was the company IYogi? I did use them and they did help me out once, big time. They are based in India. But I dropped them for an American based tech support company.

I shut my computer down and play with them. What kind of expert are you? I did exactly as you said and you can't access it?

We have an answering machine & don't answer land line calls.
If someone calls my cell & I don't know the number, I don't answer that either. Send me a text or email if you want to contact me or leave a message on our answering machine.

One time I asked where they were located and I was told 'all over the US'. Then I asked where HE was located and he told me Calcutta. Our old phone would give the location the call was supposedly coming from - it would say "Nashville" or something. The accent would be very heavy, and it is possible that someone with a heavy Indian accent would live in the US, but my husband would test them. He would ask "How is the weather in Nashville today?" And he would push on it, sometimes saying random weather patterns "My buddy that lives there said there was very bad wind today. Are you seeing that too?" And asking other questions like "I know a lot of business are along interstate 420, is that where you are located?" He said it was fun to listen to them try and lie and get back to their pitch.

I put a scammer on for a laugh once. Told him I was an EE and could help him with his computer. I asked him what country he was in. Finally I asked him how stupid did he think Americans were. Well he shouted with profanities how stupid he thought we were. I bet it took him a while to calm down for the next call.

These calls would not continue if the whole entire world were onto their scam.

I like to play with them... when I have the time to.
If I'm really feelin' froggy, and have the time, I actually have an old Brother "computerized" word processor that I'll actually turn on and type away on (so they can actually hear me clicking on the keys) when they say "now type this in, and then that, and then this..." and when I do, I tell them what happened (usually nothing, obviously). Then they want to do it remotely so I ask then how to set that up... and it obviously is really messed up.... that's when I suggest that maybe I need to get rid of it if even Tech support can make it run like a whole new computer... I've had it since the '80's.

And then someone told me they purposely do that so all the smart people bail out quickly, and you are left with the real suckers.

Were your calls about buying Target(?) gift certificates and providing the caller with the information from the gift cards to pay off your tax bill? And for those poor souls who fell for that scam, I do feel sorry for them. What the heck is the tax department or 'Depart of tax" going to do with Target gift certificates. What were these victims thinking.

The only way I can lose that is if I'm stripped of my citizenship, and that's just not possible. I was born in Canada. I guess they were attempting to target immigrants.

It was a call saying we owed money to the department of taxation, and if we didn't call them back right away, they would arrest us. I know Interpol busted the place that was doing those calls. It was India. We went from getting up to 3 calls per day, to them stopping completely. It was so nice to be rid of those calls.
