I have a puzzle that I want to solve. I thought I would have enough info to get this info. I have name, HS, year of birth, where he last lived. Can anyone give me any more ideas. This person is not showing up anywhere. He was in the marines as well. I also have sibling names, his father used to show up but no longer. This is a long and sad story that I still think of and I need to find out the truth.

I occasionally see posts on craigslist in which people are trying to track someone down.

What about ancestry.com? Try to reach him through siblings.

Perhaps that person doesn't want to be found? I've done my best to make sure that people from my past can't find me.

It's not about contacting him, it is a puzzle that I need to solve that comes around every decade or so. Thanks, don't think he was held back so he was in HS. I was born in 72 and graduated 91, your birthday must be in the summer MM.

I was told he drowned due to heart failure, but the timeframe is kind of blurry for me. Maybe mid 90's but could be as early as 92. This is incredible how hard this is. Actually someone told me that she was told by the brother or sister during a phone call, actually it may have been his dad or stepmom they were speaking with, Darn can't remember.

I am trying to get confirmation of his death.
He was said to have drowned in a local lake rec area (I went there a few times, I do believe my class ring is in that lake somewhere) but I can't remember the name of course.

OK, I'm going to say it before someone else summons up the courage to ask so don't get mad at me. If you don't want to contact him and the issue only comes up every decade or so, what's the puzzle you need to solve? There are a few very smart people on here that might be able to solve it for you and your identity remains secure.

I've been looking for a friend of mine who I suspected has passed, too. She was having significant problems with drug use. I know she got a divorce - and she was one to remarry quickly and take on a new last name - so I'm not able to find her. I thought I found her son on facebook once - it is a pretty common name, so I couldn't be sure. I chickened out and didn't send him a message. I was thinking I could always do it later - but haven't really been able to find him again. So, I understand your frustration. Of course, the time frame would put it before everyone and everything was on the internet - so even news archives would be difficult. You might go totally old school and look for a microfishe obituary. Maybe call a library and ask if they archive those things. Also - the ancestry.com lead might work because they do have death records.

Thanks Thyme, it is frustrating isn't it. His name brings up a dead pres, it is a common name. I know the names of his sister and brother, his dad is a sr, and was a police officer I think, I have all these little bits of info but nothing is coming together. His dad has now disapeared of the internet it seems. And the same as your friend thyme I think he ( or heard, things are remote now in my brain) that is may have been a drowning due to heart failure due to drugs/overdose.

Yes - if the death really happened before 1998 ( or even later) you aren't going to find much on the internet - unless someone went way out of their way to memorialize him. You are going to have to go old-school.
Seriously, I would call the local library from the area where you believe he died and ask if they have obituaries from back then - even with very little information. Some MLS with $90k in student loans would be thrilled to help. You might make their day.

Doesn't look like he was buried in the local cemetery. Geez I need a drink now, my eyes are going crosseyed.

If your local newspaper is on-line, check the obituary section. In our area, it goes back quite a few years, and I actually found the obit for a former classmate of mine that I was trying to find. Very depressing, but at least I know now why I couldn't find her. Best of luck to you!
