I understand the argument in favor of net neutrality. What is the argument for repealing it? Are the ISP providers lobbying that they want to be able to charge more money in order to maintain your high speed access to certain sites?

Access to the internet is relatively cheap and it's the biggest source of information whether that information is good, bad, real, fake or everything in between. It's easy to see why corporations and some government officials want to control it. A lot of the "support" for net neutrality was found to be fake and I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that it came from the same people who want to control it.

I want access to stay inexpensive. Whatever that takes.

Are the ISP providers lobbying that they want to be able to charge more money in order to maintain your high speed access to certain sites? The Fox Rundown said the ISPs would use the money to build infrastructure to bring better internet to rural areas that are currently underserved. After a couple minutes speculating on all the good the ISPs could do, they noted that profitability would surely go up and it was a big win for telecom companies. So, free market and more profits is the real argument.

Right, because those that live in rural areas have a ton of cash to pay high rates for internet.

After a couple minutes speculating on all the good the ISPs could do, they noted that profitability would surely go up and it was a big win for telecom companies. So, free market and more profits is the real argument. Yeah, that's totally gonna happen - because the ISPs are even now as we speak trying to build the infrastruction to bring better internet to rural areas... it's slow going (they've had meetings about how to accomplish this goal - around the watercooler). They just don't have enough money to get the main players into a confernce room to discuss this unprofitable goal. The ISPs certainly want to provide service to unprofitable sectors of the US - they feel bad that not everyone has access. If only the ISPs had some money that they couldn't find a better use for - they'd move the watercooler meetings about how they might go about providing service to unprofitable customers to a yearly meeting - in a confernce room - with beverages and cookies for the participants. And then maybe, if they had a really lot of money that they couldn't find a better use for - maybe they'd have an Intern or two set up the project.
We all know American businesses have nothing but the best interest of the American people at heart. It's their number one goal and part of their mission statements.

No, sorry. Still gone. There's little likelihood it will pass the House, and zero chance Trump will sign the bill.

Right, because those that live in rural areas have a ton of cash to pay high rates for internet. Well, you should. You don't pay shit for property taxes. (I ain't knockin' ya- I have several downstate IL properties with less than $700 annual tax bills)

Oh and when I still lived in a city, but not downtown I got screwed because a (albeit genius) sales guy convinced entire neighborhoods into decades long exclusive rights to provide internet/cable. It sucked ass and to me seems crazy that that could happen.

I was born raised in "downstate" Ill.! But then I own 3 lots in Ky. and pay less than $2 a yr. in property taxes...that includes all 3 lots. It's also undeveloped in that particular area.

It won't matter.

But most won't talk about it outside trusted circles either...too much bologna going around.

I prefer....NET NEUTRALITY
I can do without ice cream & need to lose some weight any way, but I don't want to have to pay more for my access to the net....which is what will happen if it goes bye-bye!

Right, because those that live in rural areas have a ton of cash to pay high rates for internet. this is just the thing, right? liberals have pretty much ALWAYS advocated for the rural poor. as a result, you have ALL KINDS of rural infrastructure that would not exist without liberals, who primarily reside far away from these areas. what we have now is an ascendant political power of these rural areas, and they don't want any part of liberalism. but they don't even get that they would not even KNOW about these "problems" were it not for us. kinda ironic, eh?

I know & I'm rural & have been rural most of my life. I remember having an outhouse when my aunt/uncle in town had an inside toilet. I remember the freshly oiled roads in rural areas, while in town they had nicely paved streets. So some of us know, some of us are aware....it's sorta like Kelly when he was bad mouthing immigrants, they seem to forget where they came from. I haven't, maybe because I'm old enough to remember those "good ole days" when things were simple....and oh SO MUCH HARDER WORK! (that word seems to scare many, physical labor)

most immigrants not only do the hard work: THEY DO IT WITHOUT COMPLAINT. privileged white guys, on the same duty, would whine like little girls. just sayin'

DJ, example....they tried putting parolees in the fields here to do the same work that is done mostly by Hispanics. None lasted more than one day, some left at lunch time, some quit after a couple of hours. It's HOT (can be well over 100º in the fields), it's dirty, it's back-breaking WORK and you get paid by the piece NOT by the hour. Yes, most of them they put out there were white guys.

Yes, most of them they put out there were white guys. one of the Southern States had a no-immigrant rule for farm lands. i remember reading a story about a farmer- i can't remember the crop, now. they hired 100 non-immigrants to do the job, and 95 of them didn't last the week. work visas make a lot of sense. zero tolerance for immigration really doesn't.
