An EBV titer of 30 is positive for Mono. YDS tested at 104. I don't know if that is extremely high or not but it sounds like it and his doc was like " yup, no doubt now, he has Mono".

A titer is the dilution of your blood that is considered a positive response. So if you get a positive response at 30, your blood has been diluted 1:30 (one part blood, 29 parts diluent). For your son, he got a positive titer with very little blood (one part blood, 103 diluent). I always thought that this was a really archaic way of presenting the amount of antibody in blood. We used to do it this way back in 1982, and by the time I left, I had developed a way of quantifying the amount in ng/ml. It allowed a much better comparison.

So, YDS has decided to skip the Pre-Exposure Rabies Vaccine out of concern about his recent bout with Mono and Anaplasmosis. There is nothing definitive out there which indicates a contraindication, but since this particular vaccine doesn't immunize one against rabies anyway, why tempt fate? He will not be able to handle the martens, therefore, but can do all of the telemetry and bait and check the cages. Next summer he should be good to go for the vaccine. Thanks everyone for your input. It's really awesome to have such a diverse, knowledgeable, group to turn to for all kinds of questions. ❤️
