That's horrible. It does sound like he was killed as a cover up.

That's horrible. It does sound like he was killed as a cover up. How so? It sounds to me as though the village either suspected or knew he was guilty, and delivered swift justice. Mr. Suárez states the shaman died painfully, which is perhaps an indication she didn't die immediately and was able to name her assailant. Hopefully they knew beyond a shadow of a doubt he was guilty.

If the witches shot an old lady twice and left her for dead: yeah, I guess so.

May I have next week's Lotto numbers, please and thank you. Your witch analogy made little sense. I take it you meant it in the sense of "These men had no clue who committed the crime, hence they hanged a convenient suspect." This is certainly a possibility.

Until the facts come in, I'm going with 'convenient scapegoat".

The poor woman that was murdered was a shaman, there's no telling who wanted her murdered or why.

Until the facts come in, I'm going with 'convenient scapegoat". For me, until the facts come in, I'm going with waiting until the facts come in.

Their cousin the black panther. Same cat, different color! Seriously, don't go to a foreign country and mess around in their medical culture. The researcher obviously didn't have the backing by a clinic to research cures for drug addiction because of crowd funding money.

As for why anyone would go to Peyoteville, Peru for cures to drug addiction: your guess is as good as mine. If Ted Talks has taught me anything, it's that drug addiction is about social factors.

I read a couple articles earlier today and what little I've read points to weirdness not swift and knowing tribal justice. One article states a couple witnesses saw him shoot her. However instead of swift justice some people went and made a wanted poster with his face on it and posted it. (Might have been on FB.)
The guy is buried .6 miles from where she was. How does it make sense that the guy remained in the area to be dragged out of his hut? I'd have to read more articles to see if there is a timeline and what the gap is between when the Shaman was shot and killed and when a mob arrived to lynch this man. It seems odd that if you believed this man used a gun to kill the Shaman that you would decide going after him in his hut made sense? If it really was him with a gun the people could have had a real case finding the gun and looking for powder burns and what not on the guy. Instead they beat him and lynch him and bury him in a shallow grave?
One article stated the daughter said the Shaman had no debts. But that wasn't one of the operating theories. It was the son had debts and those folks killed Mom the Shaman. The comments to one article was enlightening. I don't know if its true as I didn't read the link(s) posted, but one commenter said it was fairly common in Guatemela for locals to kill a foreigner any time something bad happened. The guy was known by his friends as not having a gun. Whether that remained true, who knows? I'd love some follow up but it probably will happen weeks after the media has moved on.

I can certainly vouch that scapegoating is real. Any time something goes wonky with the boards, guess who the YMAM mob hastens to blame for it.

I can vouch scapegoating is real but mine is at a sport. Some dangerous people with mental influencing abilities.

ETA: Do you mean, "I can vouch that scapegoating is real, but my proof concerns sports. I've seen people falsely accused of sabotaging athletes' performances with 'mind-influencing abilities'."?
