I'm really glad that because of all the news coverage, they raised over 10 million dollars to help the families out. They're going to need it, from funeral costs to helping the survivors. They're going to need..... Special wheelchairs Ceiling Hoyer lifts Adapted ramps to get into their homes Adaptions to bathrooms and making doors wider Vans with motorized lifts Crutches andbraces Medications and Physio Psychological counselling Everything from urinary catheters to diapers
That's just the short list. Doesn't Canada's health care cover these kind of things ? Why are the people going to "need it" ? I get full coverage for accidents, here in the US. This includes the long list. Just wondering.

Crutches and braces
Medications and Physio
Psychological counselling
Everything from urinary catheters to diapers
While you are in the hospital or a public extended care facility? Sure, it's part of your care. As an outpatient or when you are fully discharged? I don't think so but all of the provinces are somewhat different so I can't say for sure. As an outpatient, these are the sort of things that Extended Health Insurance may cover. If you can't afford them, there can be assistance through various public and private programs but, again, everywhere in Canada has the same basics, it's the details that are different.
Special wheelchairs
Ceiling Hoyer lifts
Adapted ramps to get into their homes
Adaptions to bathrooms and making doors wider
Vans with motorized lifts
There are Federal and Provincial grants available to help cover some of these things. Other groups may specifically fund raise for this sort of stuff. Some of it may be partially covered by an Extended Health Insurance plan.
Why would you presume that the Canadian Health Care system would cover things like lifts and specialized vans?

They don't hand out free crutches and wheelchairs and vans and braces or pay to have your home adapted. When I broke my foot, I had to pay for my foot brace. When my friend broke her leg, she had to pay for crutches. People can get extra insurance at work to cover these things. Why are people going to need those things? Ummm, because they're broken? Some of these injuries are lifelong, like the young man who is now a paraplegic.

I shouldn't of highlighted everything.

Yes, it won't hurt my feelings if I missed something. I do it all the time. It is so obvious I can't believe that anyone would miss it.

but where do we draw the line? Who gets to determine how much of a tragedy is revealed (or when? or how?)? You can't take a purely utilitarian approach to the dissemination of information. The media is one group that gets to determine how much is revealed. People involved have a part in that they can not open a door or answer a phone. Audience (or lack there of) will influence the media's allocation of time and resources. Got it I didn't read past the part I highlighted and then stated the same thing later that you had at the end of your post. Then said I shouldn't have to tell you. Did I mention that I have been really sick with a fever the last two weeks ? Good of an excuse as any.

If there is someone in your life who might feel safe enough to tell you the truth, you might check with them to see if it is only when you aren't feeling well that you make that type of comment. I am not aware of what your state of health has been when you have posted them in the past.

All that was for "Do I really need to tell you this?" This is YMAM. Be glad he isn't telling you to "Stop making shit up."--based on nothing at all--and raking in 13 'likes' and several kisses on his fanny for his trouble.

All that was for "Do I really need to tell you this?" ... Based on my personality type, there is no greater insult than questioning my competence.

Your comment could fit quite well on either side of this issue and for any number of posters on any contentious issue (and some that shouldn't be contentious). This is, indeed, YMAM. Opinions run the gamut.

The question you have to ask yourself is: Do you ever openly question other members' competence? If/when you do, do you intend it as an insult?
