his parade from the guys and gals who would be in the damn thing..unexpected problems the Pentagon did not expect. -------------------------------- " Satire from The Borowitz Report Military Refuses to Participate in Trump’s Parade, Citing Bone Spurs By Andy BorowitzFebruary 7, 2018 WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)— "The Pentagon has turned down Donald J. Trump’s request for a grand military parade in Washington, D.C., citing a sudden outbreak of bone spurs that would prevent men and women in uniform from participating. Harland Dorrinson, a Pentagon spokesman, said that, within an hour of Trump’s request, more than a hundred thousand military personnel complained that they were suffering from acute cases of bone spurs that would make marching in such a parade a painful ordeal. “In the history of the U.S. military, we have never experienced a bone-spur epidemic of this magnitude,” the spokesman said. “Regrettably, however, we have no choice but to issue thousands of deferments.” A statement from the bone-spur sufferers said that they would continue to valiantly serve their country around the world in a non-marching capacity, and offered an alternative to their participation in Trump’s proposed pageant." “President Trump is welcome to march in the parade all by himself if he would finally like to enlist,” the statement read."

It's been a while, 30 years, but on the world stage, not really uncommon. Quote; "The dichotomy between the relatively militaristic bent of the US and the total lack of military parades is somewhat strange. In many countries (including other democratic countries) it's normal for everything from tanks to ballistic missile launchers to get trotted out in the hundreds on national holidays, but the US simply doesn't do this. On the other hand, there is the weird tradition of warplanes flying over football games, so it's not like the US is averse to open displays of military hardware. I don't get it".www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/2o2bv7/why_doesnt_the_us_do_military_parades/Tried to find a non-political source.

Fly overs are basically easy beyond the skills needed..also good publicity for the service...as is the military honor guards at sports events...cost effective as is the NASCAR advertising and promotions...Military is in the business of acquiring employees, recruiting, and the employees wanted are young..high school graduates..hopefully few if any dependents, physically fit, seem to have interests in cars, racing, sports...people of opposite gender ...The candidates are looking to aquire trades for afterwards...possible education credits for afterwards...even make a career for some.

Borowitz has been doing a phenomenal job recently. However, he has been given so much material to work with, it has to be difficult what idiocy to choose.
I’m now out of free articles from The New Yorker.....dammit!
