My wife just pulled out her blanket from her recliner side basket, announced she was taking a nap, and promptly fell asleep. I am sitting here wondering if I can be quiet enough getting up to refill my coffee and wishing I could see if there is anything interesting on tv.

DH naps every day. When he is sleeping, the house could blow up and he would not hear a sound.

You know very well that changing the channel during naps is forbidden. Unless it's on commercial, then you have to time precisely as the commercial ends so the transition is smooth and unnoticeable.

It's a good time to read a book. Or, if you can type quietly, you can post here.

The thing I dislike is the lawn mower. My neighbor, no matter what time I nap, starts up her mower. It is loud. My other neighbor mows almost everyday. Usually just before dark. H. thinks he's ocd. I think that is his get away place. His mower is quiet.
H. had been napping in his chair at odd times. I look over and he's asleep. Then he sleeps all night. I couldn't turn the TV off sports. No way. He's in the living room now with an injury. I have to walk around him to see if he's asleep.

Sounds like the perfect time to head over to the sports bar.

My husband use to nap on the couch when we had toddlers, it was a total pain in the ass. I told him that he could nap, and if he went into the bedroom, we would play quietly in the main room, or he could nap on the couch, and I would do nothing to wrangle the kids.

When my husband naps I can make as much noise as I please, because nothing I do can compete with his snoring.

This was my dad. Used to make mom so mad because if she turned the channel, he would wake up and he even knew the score of whatever game was on.

Guys...guys!...guys...the answer is so simple.....a second tv in another room or your pc screen, a good set of headphones an NOBODY knows..........even a tablet will do the trick...and nobody is disturbed!! I use this all the time to get around "chick flicks"... Sorry but at my age I just can't get excited about "Bridzillas", or "The Bachelor", Or" Say Yes To The Dress"

My DH naps often in his recliner. Today he came into the kitchen & wanted to know who I was mad at...no one, why?...cause you are making an awful racket & woke me from my nap! TOUGH! Go read your book! Normally, he would never have known I was in the house!

I am sitting here wondering if I can be quiet enough getting up to refill my coffee and wishing I could see if there is anything interesting on tv. It's uncanny how a sleeping person can still detect a station change. Through commercials with different music, loudness, brightness, etc.: nothing. But change the channel and they'll wake up. The only reasonable explanation is that, on a certain level, the sleeping person is still processing the audio coming from the TV. Something subconscious triggers when the channel changes.

If I grab a blanket and a pillow, you can throw a party, I won't notice. DH doesn't notice if I change the channel if he's napping, until he starts to wake up and asks why I'm watching such stupid stuff. Going for coffee, taking pup out, meandering around....he's good about. It is the channel thing. Go figure.

You guys are nicer than me. If anyone day sleeps in my house, they better go to their bedroom if they want it quiet.

It isn't a matter of "nicer" for me. It is I don't want to deal with the consequences that come with a grouchy wife.
