So, we've had all the posts about the blazing hot Trump economy, how the money will rush in and engulf us all, yadda yadda yadda.
Anyone want to take a stab at why the market plunged 665 points for the worst week in 2 years?
Is this part of the black cap/dark star evil Hillary elaborate conspiracy to make Trump look bad?
Residual hanging over from Obama?
Just more fake news?
Can't just be cyclical market activity - Trump grabbed all the credit when the economy was humming, he must also be responsible for when we hit a bump, right?

The market has been overheated for a while. A pullback was inevitable. The release of the Nunes memo probably didn't help; it could have been the trigger, since it is likely to have all kinds of repercussions.

I thought it was due to the good employment report. Analysts are concerned that wages will rise and that the fed will raise interest rates faster than expected to combat inflation. I was kind of relieved to see the drop this week. Hopefully it will be a smaller correction than if it had waited until next year. The numbers we have been seeing in January have been too good to be real.

I'm glad. I heard on the radio the other day that the stock market was performing like it was in 1987, and I vividly remember that crash. So I think it's better if it cools down. I think some things are pretty overpriced at the moment.

No no no, I was promised I would win so much I would get tired of winning.
Money pouring into the country.
Everyone getting wealthy.
There was no mention of market corrections.

I am thinking the fear of rising interest rates I think interest rates are actually rising, so more than just fear of.

There was no mention of market corrections. You are correct there WAS no mention of market corrections and stuff. Only MAGA magic was going to happen. That said this correction is needed but I hope it won't get us into a really bad situation like 1987 or 2008. I am too close to retirement for that

Totally Hillary's fault. If she hadn't done that 1 minute video for the Grammys, the market would be fine.

From Trump's State of the Uniom address: Promptly down 1100 for the week. Market responds, "Stock THIS, m*****f*****!"

People...market goes up...also down and this market has gone nuts...there is a thing called taking some profit... As far as how the Donald reacts if the slide continues? There is always Obama and Hillery to blame.

I am thinking the fear of rising interest rates I think interest rates are actually rising, so more than just fear of. Which means our debt will rise...especially when the new debt from tax cuts start to take affect...

I think some things are pretty overpriced at the moment. I also remember the 1987 crash and I just googled it. I fail to see the similarities either in the degree of run-up, nor in the degree of drop. Have you even looked at what the August 1986-August 1987 run-up was or how much the market fell on Black Monday and Black Tuesday? The percentage numbers that we're looking at now are nothing compared to those fluctuations. A single-day drop of 2-3% was once a pretty routine thing. It used to happen every time an rise in interest rates was indicated, and we used to have fluctuations in interest rates.

86-87 was also the oil crash that hit Houston very hard. My mom worked for a very large foreign drilling/exploration company & was laid off. Those were the years she worked 2 and 3 jobs to support us. I had just graduated & only way I found a job was thru my aunt.
