Once our house refinance is done in a couple of weeks, I plan to buy a new car. So far, I've been looking at a Honda CR-V, but I've also entertained a Honda Pilot, Honda Odseeey, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander, and Toyota Sienna. I do have a dollar limit in mind that I really don't wand to cross too so some of the models I listed aren't in contention (due solely to cost).
Has anyone used one of the car buying services, such as Costco or BJ's? What were experiences? Would you use it again? Recommendation of 1 over another.
FWIW, my current car would probably used as a trade-in (if it matters). It's a convertible with 205K miles on it.

We did use the Costco program when we bought the Traverse last year. The website is not very informative and does not list all of the dealerships that honor the program, so you need to check. The dealership actually enrolled us, and I called the 800# to verify. After your purchase, you have to fill out a very short survey.

We used the service from USAA last year when TD bought the Miata. It was very easy to use, the worst part was were are on every Mazda dealers radar in a 100 mike radius trying to deal. You do need to know exactly the model you want.
The RAV4 and CRV were on my short list when I bought my Subaru Forester. You might want to check that out too.

Watch out for the usual 'car salesman'. They are out to get every dollar they can from you. Check Kelly Blue Book and any other auto value website to get a very good idea of the cost you should pay.
And be ready to pick up your checkbook and walk out if they try any carp on you. Check KKB for the trade-in value of your present car and make sure you are in the ballpark of that amount.
Several months ago I had a very bad experience and I'm still steamed about it.
Take care and do your research ...........

I haven't gone and thouroghly looked at it yet, as I have 1.5 yrs left on my current lease. I know there's no trunk, but is there a place to hide/ store any bags?

Thanks. That's not a trunk though! It's like a hatchback. If I left a bag there, you could see it. Does the floor flip up?

Either way. You can get it added to the car when you buy or get it after market.

I like my CRV. I drive a 2012.
I am fine with the size, and will consider a smaller SUV like the HRV or the Toyota C-HR, and the RAV-4. We bought our daughter a Subaru Legacy (AWD Car) a little over a year ago and I really like it, so it is on my Short List for next car, and I will look at the Forester and Outback. I absolutely will look for a fuel injected model or a little more engine size in my next car though - I wish it had a little more horsepower when getting on the freeway.
I want the pre-collision braking, blind spot detection and lane deviation features in my next car - which we bought on the Legacy. Legacy also has automatic Dimming headlights for oncoming traffic.
When I bought the CRV some people tried to convince me I wanted a larger SUV. I said no, I wanted a SUV I could park in my garage and still walk around it with the door closed. My DD was in HS when I bought the car, but she is in college now. If DH and I go somewhere together we take his car, if DD and I go somewhere together we take her car (she likes to drive), so I usually tool around just me (and my Dogs). The CRV does comfortably fit 4 people though.
I have one of those covers that hides what is in my cargo area, but with the tinted glass on the back, I don't always feel the need to use it.
We usually use Consumer Reports True Car or the KBB service to price the car. It seems to give us a pretty good deal.

Is this going to be a kid-shuttling vehicle?

Is this going to be a kid-shuttling vehicle? Yes. I’m trying to stay under $30K.

If you're not dead set on new, you can get a pretty damn nice one of any one of those models a few years old for under 30K.
