that a missile attack is imminent..not a drill.... It's reported that one man said he was wondering which child to go to to spend last moments with, others how to call all and say good bye...This must have been a horrible thing to go through..especially since it's said that over 30 minutes passed before it was let known report was a mistake..not happening. It's said on one highway..cars abandoned as people ran to a tunnel...another at a golf course..PGA event folks huddled in a kitchen... ------------------------------------------------ www.cnn.com/2018/01/13/politics/hawaii-missile-threat-false-alarm/index.html

first of all - I am one that does not panic in an emergency situation. so I think I would have just gone to a shelter. with that said: I do understand things change when in the scenario. but until then! I think I would have gone to a shelter

I would like to think I would stand under the missile to catch it. Even as a child and we did the 'drop' drills in school I always thought that I would rather be killed than injured.
At my age I might just look out the window to see it coming.
I don't panic easily but when it comes down to the wire, not sure what I would do.

I'd want to load up the family and head to grandma's so she wouldn't be alone. DH says we'd hop in the car and head east (the opposite direction of city and family). He thinks they would want us to try and save ourselves.

At my age I might just look out the window to see it coming. I don't panic easily but when it comes down to the wire, not sure what I would do. Glad I am not only one...Would have sent message to kids/grand kids.....telling of love/apologizing for being part of the generation that got us into this mess.....wouldn't want to bother them talking if they were scrambling for shelter..hopefully they knew of a shelter...but would have just stayed in the car if on the highway..or if home grabbed a couple of beers and waited it out...also of that age ...have already fought my war...not interested in another one to fight.. I really feel for those who went through this false alarm...There is a positive...possible now folks might like into where there might be some shelter...Since I don't feel we will be faced by a mass attack like back in the cold war days..more a hit or miss from small rogue nation...thinking North Korea, Iran ..so limited missals and nucs...a good thing..Bad and good...

As a kid I never could understand how hiding under my desk was going to save me. I'd just wait for it to come and get me.

Not sure but I would have been angry and sad that our leaders had been so ineffectual for so long it has come to this.

In addition to Hawaii just within the past two months started the alarm sirens testing since 2006! seems like Hawaii needed this 'mistake' to wake up and get prepared.

First of all I’d grab me a bourbon and sit down to enjoy it! We, the US, have the most advanced, the most sofisticated missile defense system in the world. The most expensive too so I’d be inclined to observe it working. I wouldn’t wanna survive with the fall out problems if we happens to get hit. To me is just not worth it!

Found shelter, there is a lot you can do to stay alive if you aren’t in the immediate blast radius.

Those things have a minimum 20miles total destruction radius and anything within 100-150 miles might as well make their peace so why bother if you know “ it’s coming”? Unless you own a minisubmarin!😀

if you do miss being vaporized you do have a good chance of surviving even without radiation poisoning if you find sufficient shelter and wait. Even 24 hours can make the difference. “Time: fallout radiation loses its intensity fairly rapidly. In time, you will be able to leave the fallout shelter. Radioactive fallout poses the greatest threat to people during the first two weeks, by which time it has declined to about 1 percent of its initial radiation level.” www.google.com/amp/s/lifehacker.com/how-to-survive-nuclear-fallout-1797685187/amp

Saw on the news that people at the Pearl Harbor memorial were told to stay in the theater. And they continued to play movie about bombing of Pearl Harbor. SMH.

I think seeking shelter under a school desk was more to protect you from falling debris if your school building was damaged than from radioactive fallout. We are told to get under something sturdy during an earthquake if we cannot safely escape to the outdoors.

A friend of mine was a first grade teacher at the grammar school I attended. I visited her once in her classroom and if I remember correctly, the desk seemed to come up to my knee in height.

This was the desk I remember from elementary school. We still had those in the late 80’s in elementary, by that time they were covered in scribbled out so and so loves so and so.
