Ok it's almost done, fingers crossed.
It came down to 2 appartments: one for $1,163 and the other for $1,265. The more expensive one is on Main St in the city while the other was in the suburbs. My wife loved the idea of being in the city, close to everything, etc.
So applications was given this morning with $200 deposit to hold the apartment. We find out tomorrow if we got it.
If we do get it that would be a saving of $405/month in rent, more if you consider utilities and even more during the winter since this complex pays for Heat, hot water, sewage. In our current apaprtment we pay for all the utilities.
To move in it is $3,795 (first, last and security deposit) which will come out of savings and if all goes well we should be at that appartment for the next 2-3 years.

What's the parking situation on the apartment downtown? Does it come with parking? That would be my major concern.

Thank you guys, hopefully we will get it What's the parking situation on the apartment downtown? Does it come with parking? That would be my major concern. Yes parking was a major concern for us and still is. This apartment building comes with 1 assisgned parking and the rest is first come first serve. My wife will use the assigned parking and I guess I will just figure it out in the evenings. That was the reason I was holding out for the $1,163 apartment in the suburbs because parking would not be an issue. But I guess getting at least 1 assigned parking is better than none which was the case for 95% of the other apartments we saw on Main St.

I'm thinking that the parking situation will have you moving in a year.
I've lived on Main St. before and know how much of a pain it is to find parking. While it's great to be near everything, finding legal parking always becomes a huge issue.
Just be aware that your auto insurance may increase......

Not a 2 bedroom and no we will not be moving before that unless my job is paying for it As for kids, not for another 3 years at least (which is why I said 2-3 years for our current location). She is on the pill and we use condoms... So would need to be a MAJOR mishap for her to get pregnant by accident.

Hope it all works out! About the second parking spot, do the bigger apts have two assigned spots? If so, there's probably a single parent who would love to rent their other spot out. I'm sure once you move in you will figure things out.

Mich1: I am worried about it driving me nuts also but we will see how it goes. As for the insurance, we checked and they told us no it would not increase. Debtheaven: I will look into it because yes, if you rent 1 bedroom you get 1 assigned parking, if you rent 2, you get 2 assigned parking.

Yes, but 24 - 36 months x $400 = >$9,000 in savings. Totally worth it!

You can park 2 SMART cars in one regular parking place.
