My wife and I just adopted a 2-year-old black short-haired cat. She's aloof, demanding, intrusive, prone to fits of violence, and extremely temperamental. She vomits on the carpet, scratches up the floors and furniture, howls at all hours, urinates wildly to express discontentment, jumps on my keyboard, spreads fur everywhere, and kills everything in sight. She's smelly, destructive, impossible to bathe, and hostile to our guests and pets. She shows us absolutely no affection, has no useful skills or talents, and generally treats my wife and I like hated house slaves. I think she's trying to suffocate me in my sleep. So... basically everything we expected in a cat after browsing cat owners' threads on YMAM for six years. We WUV her! The advice I need is this: What is the best way to clean congealed cat pee out of a laptop computer?

The Uncia recessive gene is strong in this one.

Just so people don't worry I've gone insane: the OP is satire. We didn't really adopt a cat. If I ever crave that kind of pain, I'll blow my foot off with a shotgun or something.

I kind of wonder who would take care of whatever pets I have when I pass.

DH was so glad there was me because he knew his ex would have taken cat to pound. 🤨. DD has said if something happens to me she’ll take him. 🙏🏻

I figured it was probably satire, which is why I did not respond. It isn't the best timing or spin for your OP though. Deaths peak around holidays and birthdays. You can inadvertantly be making light of what some people may be doing unexpectedly this holiday season. (Not just the one poster who already responded.) Lots of animals are adopted before the holidays and sadly more people than you'd expect will return them and the poor pet will need to be rehomed and soothed.

Too late now, though.

I apologize if I've inadvertently added to your stresses. And for what it's worth: I admire your willingness to take care of the animal and, in so doing, honouring your friend.
