WONDERFUL!!!! They just turned 1 a couple of weeks ago and had a birthday party. Got to hold all 3 of them and made DH hold one as well. Sooooooo cute!! Unfortunately their father says they are supposed to get tested for neurofibromatosis. Now off to text BIL and see if that happened yet. Hopefully the testing turns out to what BIL wants.

I've somehow become close to a radical liberal even though my views haven't gotten that much more liberal. Still haven't figured out if the fam was always rather conservative and I never realized it or if they've gotten worse. You too huh? That's if I am around my parents, grandmother or great uncle. If my brother is around apparently I am now a rabid conservative because I didn't vote for Sanders. My parents and I agree to not talk politics. My brother on the other hand cannot shut up which gets my grandma and great uncle going. Now I am trying to decide if I want to listen to that or if I want to distract him with a conspiracy theory. Maybe I'll take two travel sized bottles of rum with me in my purse.

Thing 1 is coming home and has sworn me to secrecy. She wants to walk into the house unannounced and surprise my parents. Doesn't she know I can't keep a secret! This is going to be hard!

I am so excited. I fly to Colorado on Thanksgiving day and spend the weekend the way I used to before I moved here. Going to volleyball and basketball games with friends. Can't wait.
I am happy I avoid the family.

Well, an interesting change of plans...everyone is coming for Thanksgiving lunch. My college-age niece has to work at 6 p.m. Thanksgiving night. She is in a work-study program, thanks to getting on so-so grades and not making much of an effort in high school. She's all teary and whiny about it, but hey, I think this is a teachable moment for her. You were lazy in the years leading up to college, now this is what happens. You have no options. FWIW, I am fine with the change. It's less food and less prep (no appetizers, though I plan to add a salad and one vegetable to dinner) and though they will arrive early, they will all be gone by late afternoon. Not really a bad thing.

I work until 4:30 the morning of then I sleep until 2-3 and then I have to leave to be in NH by 6. Oh the joy.

I will likely be spending Thanksgiving with the same friends with whom I have shared the holiday for many of the past 38 years. They rely on me to provide the green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, and wine. None of us has any family in the area, so we don't have to worry about family drama. I look forward to the holiday, the company, the conversation, the food, and working on whatever jigsaw puzzle they have going.
In the event this does not take place for some reason (we're all getting older and acquiring health issues, so you never know), my neighbors have invited me to share the holiday with them. I'm best friends with their dog, so I would not be surprised if she had something to do with the invitation. (They know I generally spend the holiday with my old friends but kindly invited me to join them should plans alter).
I'm very lucky. Either way, I will spend the holiday with nice people (and in one case, a nice dog) whose company I enjoy.

I was hoping to be at home with my immediate family, But we are driving 10 hrs to my MIL again this year. My FIL passed away a year ago. Last year she didn't celebrate, but this year we will go down and have a quite Thanksgiving with her. My son will fly in, but DD can't get away. At least being retired we can go down and spend almost a week. We used to go down and back in 3 or 4 days. I'm not sure if any other of DH family will be joining us. We plan to shop and cook after we get there.

swasat, If I may ask, what area of Tenn.? I have a good buddy in So. Central and is an old gardener if you are going to be in that area.
Thanksgiving is my favorite meal to cook. My son & dil will be here to enjoy it with us and we will avoid the topic of politics since I lean liberal and my son was brainwashed when he was active duty military & is a rabid conservative now. He wasn't raised that way!

I am taking the week off and just planning to sleep in and relax around the house. My son and DH will both be home that week, so we will probably do some day trips and some eating out.
