People coming for Turkey Day. Not super excited about it. Republicans and babies. I don't really like either. And now I have to cook, instead of going out to eat.

Alone last year, I’m sure I’ll be alone this year after DS finds out no sister even.

I love coming Thanksgiving meal. We eat early then watch football and eat leftovers
This year we will have ODS and DIL - will be their first trip to Alabama in 3 years we have lived here. YDS will be here, and we asked him to invite his "she's just a friend" girlfriend. YDS will pick up MIL on his way.
The crazy part is MIL and her yappy, psychotic dog. In order to get the dog to eat, MIL has to get down on the floor and bark and pretend to eat the dogs food. Nothing like hear your 80yo old MIL barking in the next room!

Tennessee. From the cold upper midwest to warmer temperatures....super stoked I thought it was great when I accepted a position with my employer here in southwest Tennessee in '94. I was in TN in January of '94 and saw pansies growing in gardens. Mild winters compared to where I was moving from (New Hamshire) where in the winter of 93-94, we had already had 90 inches of snow along with a low temp one night when I arrived back in N.H. at airport from a work week here and it was an official -25 degrees as I got off the plane. Then I experienced my first summer here. Miserably hot and humid. Almost every summer day's weather forecast is high of 95, low of 75, with a 30% chance of a pop-up thunderstorm. Every damn day. After 23 years here, I still find summers miserable. Fall is my favorite season because summer is over.

I'm working Thanksgiving night so I will most likely have someone pick DH up and take him to his brother's house so I can sleep. The family is a fuster cluck right now so God only knows who will be showing up.

My sister just sent out a group text to arrange Thanksgiving after making the executive decision that it would be at her house (about an hour away) and she would do all the cooking. No problem. We are bringing a veggie tray, dip, and a gallon of cider. I'll probably get some wine or beer too. Sister is cooking turkey and gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, mac and cheese, glazed carrots, pumpkin pie, and either banana pudding or bread pudding (with homemade ice cream). My mom is making pinwheel appetizers and paying for the turkey. It'll just be the 5 of us adults plus DD. We are going to have food for years...

I’m hibernating for the holidays. Not going anywhere and no one is coming here.
One good thing about having a fractured family is no longer having to participate in the farce that is holidays. No stress, no wanting to stab one relative and smack another one with the turkey carcass. I love it! I would consider going out and having a nice meal, but I always feel guilty that my patronage might be requiring someone to work who would actually want to be with their family on the holiday.

If it wasn't for my circle of friends that are widowed and alone, I don't know what I'd do. I'm going to my son and DILs this year for Christmas....first time in many may years of being able to be with family for that day.....pppssstttt, don't tell anyone, but my DIL Mom can just go suck eggs if she doesn't like me being there (and she doesn't and won't).

If it weren’t for your son, she wouldn’t be a grandmother anyway.

There are a lot of things "that if it wasn't for us" Her daughter caught the gold ring when she married our son.

I'm having Thanksgiving with new DH's family. I'm very meh on it. I see them all the time. But I need to finally move and it would be nice to not owe rent in December.

Alone last year, I’m sure I’ll be alone this year after DS finds out no sister even. sorry Zib, I think you're like me and value being around loved ones for the holidays. are you in a community (I think you moved recently) where you could plug in? I love being around loved ones too....just not too much Not much dysfunction in my family or DH's but the pressure of having the "Perfect" holiday is just too much to bear these days. Its so much about perfect meal, perfect gifts, perfect table setting, perfect menu that the fun seems to have gone out of the holidays. I really don't care if we don't have pecan pie one Thanksgiving. Its a PIE, for heaven's sake!! But MIL thinks everyone will die of grief if a single thing is missing from the traditional meal Same for Christmas...Must.Spend.Every. Single.Minute.Together....eating ham....or else it means we are not a perfect family. I am done with people in general. Even the loved ones

Got to hold all 3 of them and made DH hold one as well. Sooooooo cute!! Unfortunately their father says they are supposed to get tested for neurofibromatosis. Now off to text BIL and see if that happened yet.

Parents hosting. Aunt and uncle and their 6 (?) yo grandson (whom they've adopted) will be there. Cousin and his wife and two kids are vacationing in the area so the thought is they'll come too. Plus bro wife and they're two kids. And her family is invited so parents plus four more kids.
I'm really hoping SIL's oldest sis comes - she was my drinking buddy all day last year even though she's like ten years younger than me.
And I'll need the wine. I've somehow become close to a radical liberal even though my views haven't gotten that much more liberal. Still haven't figured out if the fam was always rather conservative and I never realized it or if they've gotten worse.
I'm nostalgic for the thanksgiving I could fake a college paper due the next week to just check out on my computer all week.
