It's difficult to believe it was 16 years ago already. I remember that day very well, as it was cool & sunny, just like today. The kids & I will be watching the "9/11" DVD tonight, which shows a lot of the live footage of what happened on that date. We will never forget.

I was hung over as shit returning to work after celebrating my 21st birthday all weekend. I remember having a lot of work that day shaking the supply chain tree trying to see how much we could send in donations but didn't really get anywhere because a lot of companies let people off work.
I had grad school that night in the largest tower in the Chi burbs, driving by O'hare to get there was something I'll always remember because usually you heard a plane a minute going overhead and instead it was silence. Before class I stopped at the hotel bar by the tower and a lot of businesspeople were stranded there just sitting and watching CNN. Turns out my professor was the only one that didn't cancel and half the class showed up, he let us out after an hour, everyone was freaked out being in the tower.

My husband sat at our airport and watched the planes land. He said they were coming in at a ridiculously fast rate. He said they must have been speeding off the runway to the terminal to make room for the next plane to land.

On Facebook yesterday, Tima Magazine posted their original article dated 9/14/2001 on the events of 9/11. Interesting article. If You Want To Humble An Empire In the article is a 4 minute video about the photographer who took the picture of one of the most unsettling and disturbing but so important pictures of the events that day: the bravery of humankind when given few to no options. The video is titled 'The Falling Man | Behind The Photo | 100 Photos | TIME':

I was trying to to go there. It seems we are being pressured to not remember who is behind all the trouble.

What is it you arent forgetting? That radical islam murdered Americans? That is what i am not forgetting. What's up with trump not saying 'radical Islamic terrorism' yesterday? It's a lot easier to say 'radical Islamic terrorism' when you are not president. Breitbart rips Trump for not saying 'radical Islamic terrorism' during 9/11 speech
Breitbart News on Monday criticized President Trump and several top members of his administration for failing to call out "radical Islamic terrorism" during their speeches marking the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The conservative website's lead story called out Trump, Vice President Pence, Defense Secretary James Mattis and Attorney General Jeff Sessions for not mentioning the phrase during their remarks. The website said Trump "seemingly went out of his way" to not say "radical Islamic terrorism" and noted several other phrases Trump used, including "terrorists who attacked us" and "horrible, horrible enemies." During his speech, Trump said he would honor the sacrifice of those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, by doing "whatever we must to keep our people safe." "The terrorists who attacked us thought they could incite fear and weaken our spirit," he said. "But America cannot be intimidated, and those who try will soon join the list of vanquished enemies who dared to test our mettle." Breitbart also hit Pence for referring to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria as ISIS instead of its full name, and Mattis for "not even using the words 'terrorist' or 'terrorism.' " Trump repeatedly used the phrase "radical Islamic terrorism" during his 2016 presidential campaign and frequently criticized former President Obama for not using the term, arguing that not using the term empowered terrorists. I meant to comment on this thread the other day. I thought I had actually. Must have vanished into the internet along with other lost posts from people...
This is what I posted originally.

I think that's understood when you say "I will never forget 9-11"
People say, "remember Pearly Harbor" (usually meaning, remember the dirty Japanese sneak attack....they don't actually say "remember the dirty Japanese sneak attack")
These are accepted norms
Just because someone doesn't actually say it, you can't jump to conclusions. Instead of accusing others, why not just state it the way you want to state it?

Two friends of mine, the father and brother of my oldest DF from grade school, survived that day. Each of them worked in one of the towers. One of them was simply lucky - Sept. 11 is his birthday, and two of his managers took him to breakfast in a ground floor cafe that morning, 1/2 hour before the first plane hit. Everyone in their office except the three of them died instantly. The other was young and agile enough to run down dozens of flights of stairs and get out in time before the second plane hit.
A few months back, the CBS program Sunday Morning interviewed Sir Elton John, who owns what I believe is the only print made of Falling Man. He did not mention how he came to own it or what he paid for it. He did say he felt it was an important, if horrific, part of history and caretaking and preserving it, as a reminder of what evil can do, meant a lot to him.
