Aparently they are considering a remake of Lord of the Flies, but all girls (no boys) www.cnn.com/2017/09/01/entertainment/lord-flies-girl-remake/index.htmldid u think the original Lord of the Flies was what would happen if it was all boys? do u think it would go differently if it was all chicks, instead? I think it would go the same both ways. It's humanistic for peeps to devolve and be selfish & self destructive.

Girls will likely be worse. Or at least just as bad differently.

Golding wrote the book in 1954. The girls of 1954 are far different than the girls of today. As long as the remake doesn't try to recreate the 1954 mood and period in which the book was writren, I think it could be successful. Girls are far more assertive with a desire to control their surroundings (good and bad) today than in 1954.

It's already been done, as a novel. John Dollar by Marianne Wiggins. NOT a happy end.

Girls are brutal. With no societal pressure to be sugar and spice I imagine it'd be worse than the original.

One only has to take a look around. There's some nasty men but the women far outnumber in the nasty department. Of course all hate being called out for it.

Women you don't see coming till it's too late. We are 9th degree manipulators. I've known a few men that are good at playing the long game but not near as many as I do women.

IDK... I've read the book. I didn't really see it as a commentary about the behavior of only MEN - I saw it as the author's take on morality and humanity and society - and OK I know it's weird since I know women generally are suppose to be the upholders of morality (I had a good Catholic upbringing and if men were being immoral it's because the WOMEN in their lives weren't doing their job), and women generally aren't included in Humanity cause you know we're just along for the ride and don't actively participate (other than to pleasure men and pop out the next generation) and women generally don't have much say in 'society' as that's men's work... so, maybe it does seem weird to have a book/movie about WOMEN dealing with those issues. <-- yes those are all stereotypes but really - look around.... it's pretty much a given point of view when anyone discusses women.... I was kind of disappointed that it's 2 men writing the screen play - cause it makes me wonder if maybe the movie will revolve around the girls talking to each other about boys the whole time.

Well, the author pretty much was doing a "morality story" and it was 1954... it's logical to use boys. FWIW: I think there are power struggles in any group... men or all women or a mix. we're all freaking human! I don't think women/girls would gravitate quite so strongly towards using brute strength to get what they want and towards using brute force/fear to keep everyone in line... but I can totally see the book/story/morality story being done with girls as the main characters. the "brutishness' is just a little different but equally as awful.

If Lord of the Flies was all women, they'd have shelters built, gardens planted and yoga classes every Monday. Wednesday and Friday.

But then imagine once all their periods start to synch and they all get really grumpy around the same time every month......end of the world stuff

I read the book over 35 years ago and have no idea how the stranded schoolboys managed to eat enough to stay alive. I've spent some time on tropical islands and while you might not need much shelter from the elements, food isn't particularly easy to come by unless the environment has been altered to produce food or the person seeking food has some pretty specialized knowledge of how to get it.
I don't know how a reboot will handle this huge weakness in the original plot.

Actually, there's already a female version of Lord of the Flies. It's a book called Savages, by Shirley Conran A bunch of spoiled housewives accompany their mining executive husbands on a business trip to a remote island in the South Pacific. The dictator has their husbands murdered and the women are forced to flee into the jungle and fend for themselves. There are cannibals, venomous snakes, hunger, toxic bugs, sickness and disease, revolutionaries and certain death. Pretty good book.

At least the cover art gets something right. If you're stranded on a tropical island, you're gonna be spending a whole lot of your time at the water's edge looking for food. That's the best and most reliable food source that you have. Fruit is highly seasonal and you'll be competing against the winged and four-plus legged crowd to get it.
I don't think that you'd be able to retain the nice even haircut, or the tan lines, though. And that spear gun is probably more of a defensive weapon than something that can be used to harvest reef fish. A good pair of reef-walking shoes would be loads more handy than that spear-gun.
