its in South Africa. Gave student 1 mill instead of $100.00. Common mistake, I do it all the time. also i guess they do things differently in S. Africa. Someone snitched on the student. "University officials were alerted to the mistake by another WSU student who noticed the young woman's newly found spending habits." I guess they never heard "snitches get stitches" in S. Africa? What about "finders keepers"? Student only spent like $60k. www.cnn.com/2017/09/01/africa/south-africa-student-deposit-mistake-trnd/index.html

Well, I was going to say "what an idiot" for spending that money because obviously they were going to figure out the mistake, but apparently, she actually got to keep all she spent!?! I can't believe they aren't making her reimburse the $59,900.

Universities here would probably be like "SWEET!" and not say anything. The encourage other students to not pay attention for such mistakes while counseling them about FA.

The student's account has since been blocked and the remaining balance has been retracted, WSU spokeswoman Yonela Tukwayo said in a statement. "The student will be liable for the money she has already spent," Tukwayo added. (from the link in the OP)

She had to work hard to spend $60k in South Africa. Any other country, she would have spent a LOT more.
