The onion suggested we just cover all the statues with a tarp until racism blows over.

Some states are actually going to drape them in black. I wonder if draping them in black is racist?

But, obviously, there are some that don't want to move past it. They want to hang on to divisive time and replay it daily to continually remind everyone of all the bad times. If pulling down the statues is about healing breaches, why does it feel as though every "social justice" movement's raison d'etre is rubbing America's nose in past injustices, and slavery in particular? Regardless of what we think of these statues coming down, it's another milestone in the millennial left's quest to find new and exciting ways to be offended. Of course it won't satisfy them. They'll find new bones to pick and wounds to salt, and inspire growing hatred. The fallout won't entirely be their fault, and they won't act entirely without good intentions, but reality doesn't care about who's responsible or what they intended. You're headed for another civil war. The only thing stalling the decline is the world economy holding on by a thread, but when it inevitably tanks, all bets are off. I believe that both sides continually find new bones to pick. That is what keeps our country balanced. However, we do keep moving - sometimes in circles, but we as a society is always changing. The societal norms of 1776 are gone, and the millennials will one day be the old fuddy duddies complaining about the next generation trying to change shit. If we don't adapt, we die. Maybe the generation that is bring born at this exact moment will decide that Victorian sensibilities, with chaperoned dates and covered ankles will be the change needed, but I doubt it.

If we don't adapt, we die. Adapt to what? The endless march of progressive lunacy? And how does hauling away Confederate statues constitute adapting to anything?

Yeah. I saw a black pastor in Charlottesville saying she had never been to emancipation park... because as a kid she was not allowed to be in the white neighborhood. And just never did go there. I can't find that article again, ... did find this though. "Soon after white supremacist Dylann Roof murdered nine African-Americans in a Charleston, South Carolina, church in 2015, many in Charlottesville started highlighting the towns' deepening economic divide. Some also agree with African-Americans activists who have called for Confederate leaders' statues to be removed and to rename parks the monuments stand in." www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/charlottesville-faces-its-own-dark-past-after-rally-turns-deadly-n792166

Some states are actually going to drape them in black. I wonder if draping them in black is racist? In ongoing efforts to demonstrate what is and is not racism and discrimination... : No.
