I just got a new cell phone (smart phone). It was sent to me free, so I didn't get to choose it. I've been trying to figure it out for about a week. For the most part, I'm getting the hang of it. However, in the settings for call waiting, there is an option I don't understand and haven't been able to find any info on it. I hope one of you can help me. Option 1- Call Waiting I have already chosen the option to notify me of incoming calls, during a call. Option 2 CALL WAITING STATUS - Choices are: service has been enabled or service has been disabled. If this is simply to turn call waiting on or off, why did it first ask m if I wanted to be notified? How can it notify me, if the service is off? Maybe I'm making this way too hard. But I need to know what I'm doing to some degree, if I want my phone to be effective and not charge me TONS for data and roaming charges. Thanks for your help!

just guessing here? {1} not to be concerned about the order of the of the questions in the settings options {2} if you choose to enable the service. you will be notified, probably during your call {3} if you choose to disable the service. you will be notified after your call is over. possibly with a missed call notice.
Hope this helps

I suspect that the "Call waiting status" has to do with whether you've activated the service with your provider.

I am going to have to switch from a flip phone to a smart phone shortly. How do you find the serial number on the smart phone? I can use Crabby's old phone. After that, I will have more questions like the above.

I guess this will work just as well for males as females (those of us on the wrong side of 65): take the phone to a store of your service provider at a rather quiet time. Look slightly confused and ask for help. Keep asking plenty of questions and the nice people in the store will do it all for you.
I have applied this even before I went to the wrong side of 65 last year. I know it is bad since it perpetuates the stereo type of the technology ignorant older person, but ... it works and I am lazy

Ha! When I was scrolling through the thread titles and saw this one, I thought "I need that!" bwahahaha
I called the 'special' phone number I was given, by a 'special' acct rep, after I filed a BBB complaint, to ask a few questions. All the guy kept saying was "read the book. If it's not in the book, your phone probably doesn't have that feature." Not exactly helpful. Especially cuz there are things like speed dialing that I would expect every phone to have. I found nothing in the book about it. But one time, when I took my phone out of my pocket, it was on a page that had to do with speed dialing. I just don't know how to get there. When I told him that, he told me again to read the book and if I can't find it in the book, the phone probably doesn't have that feature.
Really? This is what you call customer service?! Ugh.
Seems like customer service, in every field, needs improvement.
