I guess it proves money can't necessarily make you happy.......
....and / or that people can be self destructive regardless of happenstance

Why do these guys keep killing themselves? I want to know as well! So many musicians dead by suicide or overdose. Why?
This makes me sad. And I really liked Linkin Park, and particularly Chester!

I imagine the suicide of his good friend Chris Cornell of Soundgarden had sometjing to do with his own suicide.

Think of the songs that move you the most, that leave an imprint on you. Most of them aren't happy go lucky songs. And most that write not so sunshine songs have the past to go with it.
Add in how much drinking and drugs are in the scene...
And Chester had a horrific past.

Probably because musicians live on the "back side of the clock" - if they are touring (and a tour could be a year or more) they have to be at the top of their game in the evenings - while the rest of the world is active/top of their game during daylight hours. Which means they probably don't get much sleep (which I'm sure can be helped by using some drug...) And then I think there's the dichotomy of their REAL self and their STAGE/BAND/Marketed to the Public self. And then there's the pressure to "produce exactly the same thing" over and over and over again (potentially for decades) - at what point does going on stage simply become "going thru the motions" AND can they be ok with that.
And then there's the implied "drug" culture - how do you smooze who you need to smooze with if they are high and you are not? How do you fit in without being the odd man out? I bet there's a lot of pressure to 'join in'.
I would think if you don't start out with a 'drug free' retinue/roadie group - it's hard to cut the ties to the people who work for you (the business side of things).
Then there's the isolation - everyone wants something (I'm your biggest fan: give me money, visit me in the hospital, etc...) You need to keep yourself at arm's length.
OK, either that or it's just the 'tortured artist' thing...
(I'd think it's easier to be happy anonymously rich than famous rich)

You have no idea how correct you are.
