While she was no lost child, my grandmother unknowingly found herself in the same position as the lost kid mentioned in this thread.
My grandmother had the beginnings of dementia. The dementia was not bad enough to require moving her from her apartment to a nursing home. Somehow my grandmother ended up outside in the middle of the night, in just her nightgown, and in the middle of winter. She was lost and confused. A man walking the street saw my grandmother and asked her if she needed help and she said yes. As my grandmother weighed nothing, the man gave her his coat, picked her up in her arms, and carried her until he could flag down a police car. She was safely brought back to her apartment.
My family didn't care one whit who helped her. We were just glad somebody helped her. as she could have frozen to death. Sad that the same cannot be said as it pertains to anyone, regardless of gender, helping children.

I was always worried that my mom would go outside, become lost and that someone might hurt her, rather than help her. Luckily it never happened.
