So i get Citi points from my citicard. they work good with amazon. there is something on Amazon i like but it costs $40. no way would i spend $40 on it. but i have $20 worth of points. so my dilemma now is, if i use my points should i kind of consider it is costing me $20 now?
would u consider it as costing $20 or $40.

Unless there is a bonus for using points I can't understand why anyone ever would. Cash in the points and use the card for the purchase, thereby earning more points. And no, it is costing you $40. But on the bright side, if you buy something else for $2000 you can get enough points to get your thing for free!

Definitely $40. Those points are worth a $20 bill if used on Amazon.

I consider points to be like a bonus or unexpected windfall (meaning I don't budget for them). Still worth their full cash value, but ok to use on splurges.
Technically they are rebates, so money already spent.
