This household product--something you may have in your own house--has now killed one person and seriously injured another 60 in France. The Guardian reports: Rebecca Burger, 33, who wrote about fitness and travel on social media, where she had 55,000 Facebook and 154,000 Instagram followers, died last weekend in what her family described as a “domestic accident” at her home at Mulhouse, eastern France.
According to her family, the [product] exploded hitting her chest causing a heart attack. She was taken to hospital but died the next day. The local prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation.
French consumer magazine 60 Millions de Consommateurs said it had warned readers about the [product] for years after about 60 reports of [explosions] causing injuries ranging from broken teeth, tinnitus, multiple fractures and, in one case, the loss of an eye. The problem affected more than a dozen models produced between 2009 and 2013, the magazine said.
One victim told RTL radio in 2013: “I had six broken ribs and my sternum was broken. At the hospital, I was told that if the shock and blast had been in front of the heart, I would be dead by now.” I'll post the link shortly, but first a contest: Who can guess what the product is? Play fairly. No looking up the answer!

I had an old Hoover vacuum that blew up, & one piece went flying across the room. The piece didn't hit anyone, but I haven't bought a Hoover since.

A hand-held dish scrubber. The woman's hands were very soapy and because she was gripping the scrubber to tight, it rocketed out of here hands and hit her in the chest and killied her. (There's a 'second' reason as to what killed her which I read this morning but surely cannot be true. I thought I would offer something more plausible)

I can't guess, because I read the article earlier today. Once the answer is out let me know if this is a common thing. I am not familiar with the device.

I got here 9 minutes too late, to guess. But I really like the dish scrubber and the toilet brush! They get my vote, even though they are incorrect! A whipped cream dispenser... is that a can? Like this? I'm not familiar with them. Sounds like that is a good thing! Yikes!

Like this? I'm not familiar with them. Sounds like that is a good thing! Yikes! The photo in the article looks like a smaller version of the creamers they use at restaurants like Starbucks. I imagine they're kept at a higher internal pressure than your typical aluminum canister. According to the article, the siphon on the defective units can't withstand operating pressure and explodes. This would generate a sudden directed force that would propel the canister in a direction opposite the siphon, like a recoiling gun. Typically this would be towards the user's chest, but depending on the angle it's being held, it could hit the face, the arm, the neck. It would be one hell of a hit too, because even flimsy plastic pop bottles can handle 150 psi before they blow. A 1/8" plastic cap would be able to handle several times this, so when it gives, it really gives. Once in a science-based summer camp, our instructor (a grad student) brought us some liquid nitrogen to play around with. We froze all kinds of things. I put a banana in my sock and froze it, then shattered the banana (which I later regretted; but I digress). Then the instructor got a 500 ml Pepsi bottle and filled it about a third full of liquid nitrogen. We put it out in the hallway under an overturned garbage can, knowing it would eventually explode as the nitrogen warmed up. We started doing something else and the bottle had more or less slipped our minds when BOOM! Louder than any gunshot. Our instructor had to calm people as the entire building showed up to find out what had happened (this was before Columbine, in an era when people investigated the sound of explosions rather than running away from them). The Pepsi bottle was fairly intact, except it had ripped in two. But it impressed on me just how much pressure those things can hold, even with only a millimeter of plastic.

Virgil Showlion , "may have in your own home" right. You should have indicated plebeians need not play. Hadn't a clue such a thing exists.

Cool whip tubs don't explode. I'd get a nasty come back at the mention of Cool Whip from the LCHF peeps.
My cousin would put skim milk in her coffee press then pump like crazy for her whipped creaminess.
