Not sure how I feel about this. money.cnn.com/2017/06/05/technology/apple-do-not-disturb-while-driving/index.htmlIt says "passengers" will be able to turn it off. So hopefully I can turn it off while I am driving (how will it know if I am passenger or driving?) I really rather have stricter punishments against it if it causes an accident. Should be easy to prove. I mean harsh punishment. I will be interested to see how it's implemented. I see a potential opportunity for other phone makers.

I've watched in horror while people text while driving, while their cars weave in traffic. It'd be a blessing if they could just plain figure out a way to completely shut off phones automatically once the car goes into "drive". It's not a problem until someone you know gets hurt. Frankly, I don't think the punishments are harsh enough for drunk driving, & can't imagine the punishments being any tougher for "distracted driving".

Thought I read you have to opt into the feature and it can't tell if your a passenger or a driver.
I have Apple CarPlay in my car and use the voice text feature, works pretty well.

I have Waze app and if you try to type while moving it will ask if you are a passenger. Of course you can claim to be a passenger if you are not. At least it makes you think about lying to your phone.

I'm okay with the texting feature on phones "locking up" if GPS detects them moving faster than a run... even if people are passengers.
Does anyone remember how hard it was to survive before the invention of the cell phone? Me either. It's a drive in a car, people won't die because you didn't text them back fast enough.

This is a fantastically stupid idea.
If my Samsung starts locking up every time I get on the bus or the subway and I can't circumvent the lock with ease, Google is going to get a piece of my mind.

Both hurt quite bigly by an idiot texting driver.

Any time the ignition is on have a force field in a car to disable a cell phone/computer of any kind, both for drivers and passengers.
If you want to deal with your phone, pull into a parking lot to do it.
Horrors ....... families would have to actually talk to each other
Actually I mentioned this to my g-SIL, who is a police officer, and he didn't like this idea. Too many 911 calls come from moving vehicles.
