I've been seeing comments about this on FB all day, I've been away from the TV until the last hour or so. I finally saw a highlight of this on the local news, bc well, Massachusetts. holy hell, this is easily the most relaxed I have ever seen Hillary in a public setting. I think she may have finally come around to realize that she isn't the next coming of whatever, and that she finally has the peace of mind to speak her mind. in her speech at her alma mater, she took a few jabs at herself in addition to her former opponent and various other things. I'm going to look for a full video of this, not just the highlights. if I find one, I'll update and add it to this OP. article, not a transcript

Did anyone walk out? There was probably at least one token republican in the audience. Or, maybe not. But, i am guessing nobody walked out.

Let's not turn this thread into a snark-fest. There's no value in that. From what I've read nobody walked out of the speech given by Ms. Clinton at Wellesley.

It's an observation. Pence recently spoke at a commencement. So now comparisons are not allowed?

Every thread about Trump has snarky comments. I said nothing snarky. I made observations. But the snark is ok if at Trump?

It's an observation. Pence recently spoke at a commencement. So now comparisons are not allowed? Sure you can compare. But it looks like you are complaining that no one walked out of this commencement while some did when Pence spoke. Maybe I misunderstood?
The Constitution guarantees freedom of speech, but it has neither a duty to listen, nor a duty to walk out to "make things fair" as far as I know. There were students that thought that sitting through Pence's speech would devalue their graduation experience but it seems that there were none that felt as strongly about HRC speaking at their commencement.
The only thing that really proves is that for these two specific groups certain members in one group found the speaker to be unacceptable. Nothing more, nothing less.

When questioned by reporters, the majority of students who walked out on Notre Dame's graduation speech said they did it because of social justice reasons. AND the university (the very same one who invited Pence) also openly supported their right to do so.
So *if* you follow the logic supposedly being presented here: did any students have reason to walk out on HRC for social justice reasons?

Posts being made just for the purpose of baiting others are going to be removed. You guys are welcome to disagree but the one-liner snarking back and forth is going to be removed. There are some here who would like to be able to read a thread without having to wade through that garbage.

So you can't compare and contrast the difference in how students react to Hillary's speech (who happens to be a Democratic leader) to how students react to Pence's speech (who happens to be a republican leader) in a thread that's about Hillary's speech?

Several good valid reasons come to mind... however, it would be impolite to walk out in the middle of a ceremony. Maybe those that did have reasons, chose instead to exercise decorum and manners... therefore they stayed and suffered through what, to them, was a load of crap, because they wouldn't lower themselves to an uncivilized standard.

Actually I think its different for a couple reasons. Hillary is a Wellesley alum. Pence is an alum of Hanover and Indiana not Notre Dame. And why not contrast with Trump's address to the Coast Guard? I don't think anyone walked out of that one.
Also, there's a difference between someone who ran for the Presidency versus someone who became VP toward the end of the campaign. And, given its Notre Dame in Indiana, they likely have baggage/experience with Pence as governor. Its a bad comparison, because the initial conditions are so different.

Both were INVITED speakers (Pence & Clinton). Each is a key representative / leader in their party. It shows how students of the opposite party of the speaker reacted in those cases (unless we are assuming there were no republican leaning students attending Hillary's speech)
Trump is the boss of the Coast Guard (well the boss of the boss of the boss of the Coast Guard(semantics))...the Coast Guard is military like and they really have no free will to "leave" a ceremony--their job depends on it

I think you are utterly wrong here. This is not a Democrat/Republican thing. It is IMO an individual reputation thing. Anyone who enrolls in Wellesley knows that the two most famous alums are Albright and Clinton. As a premier women's college the selling point is that alumni like Clinton and Albright exist and you might go to school with someone as famous someday. Dissing a famous alum is not normal or socially acceptable.
And sure, some Republican woman graduate could walk out on the speech protesting former policies of Hillary, but what would be the point? She is not in the position to write or pass federal laws now.
On the other hand, Pence is. And that's why there was a protest. It wasn't a blind OMG he's a Republican. It was a OMG I do not want to be behind these policies and I want to protest them.
www.aljazeera.com/news/2017/05/notre-dame-students-walk-mike-pence-speech-170522053216268.html
"The participation and degree-conferring of VP Pence stand as an endorsement of policies and actions which directly contradict Catholic social teachings and values and target vulnerable members of the university's community," Notre Dame student Xitlaly Estrada said in a statement by the student group WeStandForND, which organised the protest.
More than 100 people walked out, organisers said. Many wore rainbow pins or flags, a symbol of gay pride.
