Is there a link to try this ourselves?... I think I know but I'm not 100% sure.
That's a looooot of pretty wrong guesses.

The fact that they are all in the eastern hemisphere prove that they did not get a good sample of the US population.

The fact that they are all in the eastern hemisphere prove that they did not get a good sample of the US population. The NYT limited the map to Asia. Of course that didn't stop some people from getting the continent wrong, or guessing at various places in the middle of the ocean.

Drive to China & take a right. Or, did I miss the turn at Albuquerque? (Bugs Bunny reference...)

It's just north of South Karolina of course. But really, that is quite sad. Not as sad as South Karolina.

Q: Where is North Korea?
A: That-a-way... (as I point in a generally Westerly direction)... unless you want to go the other way, 'round teh planet... then it's that-a-way (as I point in a generally Easterly direction)
ETA: for reference, I'm at just North of the 36th parallel, and North Korea is (mostly) North of the 38th Parallel, just West of the Sea of Japan.

I'll admit, I got it wrong based off the given map. I knew it was the northern half of a peninsula and it borders China. On this particular map, the dots obscured the border between Myanmar and Thailand at the edge of the peninsula, making it look like that area also met those two qualifications. On an unobscured map, I think those two facts would have been enough to correctly locate it.

The only reason I'd get it right is because I knew Korea was invaded by neighbouring Japan during WWII. But clicking on Japan? China? India? Indonesia? Australia? Russia? I mean come on. How can somebody not know these are not North Korea?

Man, 45- to 54-year-olds are dumb! 😆
One thing that was great about my 10th grade world cultures class is that we had to draw all the political boundaries in a blank outline of the continents. I know my countries!

My husband is a map geek. Some place from AZ was the moment of peace on CBS Sunday morning and I asked him where it was. He gave me crossroads and directions. I still have no frickin idea where it is. I was looking for "Northwest - between the Grand Canyon and Vegas." That said, I know where North Korea is. I did look that one up.

Also, can we just extrapolate the independents are the smartest and most educated?

Also, can we just extrapolate the independents are the smartest and most educated? I always thought that was a given. That is WHY they are independent!

I can be reading, say, an article about out-of-the-way places to visit in Europe and I have to Google the place name and look at a map and then for pictures of the architecture and the citizens of the area.

Man, 45- to 54-year-olds are dumb! 😆 ... I thought about this when I read the article. Theory: So far removed from schooling and MASH 4077 ran when they were too young to pay it much attention.

I do the same thing. I've been fortunate to have visited a lot of places in the world but if it's someplace I don't know about, or haven't heard of, I'm going to look it up on Google. I'm always curious. I've been to South Korea so I knew immediately where North Korea was.

Courtesy of the NYT and ZH. (slow clapping) OK. Who here is willing to admit they'd be part of the 2/3rds of Americans to get this wrong? I know where Sinanju is. N. Korea is easy.
