Um...what kind of oopsie? Because in my world, that word is reserved for a pretty specific type. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. And I'm only saying it here, because it's killing me not to say anything in real life. We want to wait minimally until we know if it's viable. And I know I'm going to get judged all to kindgom come about this. Congrats! Also, congrats on getting into grad school!

Actually, for it being poor timing...it's not so bad. We've got more access to resources than we had when we were younger, in terms of people helping and all that. My retirement plans aren't completely ruined. We are still pretty shocked, though.

Didn't you have to do fertility treatments with the others?

Didn't you have to do fertility treatments with the others? I believe she did and that may be the source of "we are pretty shocked". I remember receiving a phone call from DSIS4 that was similar to that. She asked me if I was sitting down, I was not → I am flat on my back at 1AM and she forgot about the time difference, and then she told me. Funniest thing of that call, which I'll never let her live down, towards the end she said something along the lines of "who would have thought you can also get pregnant just by having sex" In her defense there were 10 years of trying and 2 "IVF babies" in her life by that time. Won't stop me from yanking her chain though...

Sitting at a bar 17 floors off the ground staring at the snow capped mountains of Switzerland and Jack n cokes are $15 a pop, tonight it's gonna cost me probably $150 to be me, plus train fare.

Didn't you have to do fertility treatments with the others? Yes. The third I had to stick myself with drugs and get an IUI. That's the one that I like to joke that DH managed to knock me up when he wasn't even in the same building. We've still be good about using BC. We've gone rogue once a month or so. And yes, normally I don't ovulate without drugs. We just told DS. He was like "OMG. You are old! How did this happen?" I asked if he needed me to draw pictures for him. He declined.

Anyone got a time machine to make it go faster?

I'll take responsibility for 1/3 of the family's monthly expenses, so 2.3K.
We live in a VHCOLA! I am single and live in the same VHCOLA area as quince . Since I paid off my mortgage the cost of being me is ~$2.2k/month. I do like to travel and celebrate holidays lavishly so that is included in the $2.2k.
Someone keep me away from toys and stuff around Xmas time please...
ETA: no don't you dare. I love it too much

I just finished adding in medicare and supplement so fixed costs for us before any other spending, is $1000 a month, $12000 a year. Nothing in this pertaining to business, its separate.
That's just ins, property taxes, health insurance and registrations.

Unless you add in food somewhere that cost is going to go down to zero pretty darn quickly

I was just looking at basics that will not go away. I can adjust food costs. I'm getting ready to plant a big garden again, since I can a bunch, I do keep food costs down. Could bake bread, etc if I would and reduce more. We are frugal on some things and spend way to much on others.
I have been trying to really see what all our basic tax and insurance costs are on everything. Pretty damn high, you never really own anything.

I don't have an actual budget. I guess I spend about 30K a year not counting medical and dental or emergencies. Last year I spent over 22K on just dentist. Is giving money to people considered a cost of being me?

I know that ours is $5000 a month plus, trying to get that down since we are pulling from savings to do that. If we ever get all the houses rented 2 more, we will be fine, but he has so much to do and now he is doing some volunteering. We can live on less but we have not been depriving ourselves.
I am likely spending $500 for the duck concession we are doing for our local festival. We bought a stock tank and pump, hubby is fixing it up, I just ordered over $200 of prizes and ducks. Just stuff like that.
Until last month I was still tweeking insurance and stuff, hubbys last company return also. I have a better handle on it all and we just need to spend less period. It's very hard to adjust down from what he was making even though we saved a lot of it. It's him too, not just me and its finally sinking in.

I'm going to keep track of what I'm going to spend on this house. I feel like I'm going to leak money. I made a list of what needs to be done now and what can wait. There's screens that need to be repaired. Since I'm not going to be opening my windows for several months, that can wait. Landscaping to have everything plants, flowers, and bark dust, no grass, that'll wait as well. Electric and plumbing and roof-now as well as interior paint. No waiting. Depending on that cost, the master bath and kitchen. Then the hall bath. Gasp.

I told my husband, we will be able to live well once we start taking RMD out, that will be $20k a year before taxes for 20 years, we will be 90 by then. And there is other money saved.
He says what, we are putting that in CD's every year. I told him he is crazy, we are supposed to pinch pennies for what? I think he will change his mind once the kids get home, we want to go see them, do things with them, etc and that costs money.
This man will try to save money after he is in the grave. LOL!

Should I just replace the sink and refrigerator, I can hopefully sell the old refrigerator as it's SS and less than 2 years old? I have always wanted an apron or farm sink. We didn't do it up north because we would have had to replace all the granite and some cabinets. This wouldn't be the case here. There's very little counterspace and it's not anything remotely expensive so I don't feel guilty. I will get two prices of course, one with the new sink and countertops and one just with the new sink. My aunt says I can always redo it later but I know i never will if I don't do it up front. Ack. These decisions will do me in.
