the country's largest town went to the polls today, to vote for the seventh time on whether to remain a town or become a city. early returns are showing that it might finally be time for the town to blow the dust off and welcome a City Council. link

Silly me. I thought Framingham already was a city. Not that I pay that much attention to them but still...

nope, it's been voted down a number of times already. after all my years working in that town, and having spent early grade school in that system, this is a vote I've been paying attention to as it came up. local politics at its best and worst, for sure.

I wonder if they'll make my town a city someday? I hope not but weirder things have happened around here.

Is it a problem to become a city vs a town?

I always recall it as the town of Framingham. Town of Natick too. .

Is it a problem to become a city vs a town? it's just a different style of government organization.

Stupid question maybe but what is the difference between a city and a town? In olden times, in the "old country" (where I am from) town rights were bestowed by the ruler of the area the community was located. This included the right to (deny) entry, tax, etc. But... what does it mean in the US today?
