I'm just so glad Mexico is going to pay for that wall. Oh, and the little contributions we are supposed to make like $1B for ~60 miles. Pretty sure they don't intend starting with the most challenging parts either. edition.cnn.com/2017/03/27/politics/trump-border-wall-cost-distance/index.htmlAnyone want to take a stab at the total US part of the cost (I'm pretty sure we should assume our contribution to be somewhere around 100%). Follow-on bonus question: based on some of our YM economists you increase tax revenue by decreasing tax rates. So how low would our tax rates need to go to pay for this little venture while balancing the budget? Negative rates are allowed, but need to be provided showing your work. Looking forward to seeing some real and/or snowflake to these questions

Close to 2000 miles length. The "existing" wall is in bits and pieces here and there and is being jumped/climbed over, dug under or simply holed thru so...ineffective! Waste of money in other words. If they claim $1 billion for 60 miles that means in all reality will be more like 30 miles/$1 billion. Add to that new check points and crossings, special circumstances for unfriendly terrain and you get to about $1 trillion for the project. That would be the equivalent of building nearly 25000 new schools! Who needs education when you can have walls?

The cost of the wall will be a fraction if the work is carried out by illegal immigrants on low pay and poor working conditions.

please explain to me how this wall stops people from overstaying visas? Screw that, I want to know how it'll keep people from cross the Gulf of Mexico and coming in from Florida or other Gulf states. Especially since the Coast Guard is on the budget slash list in order to finance said wall.

please explain to me how this wall stops people from overstaying visas? Build 50,000 feet tall walls around the U.S. so planes cannot fly in carrying visitors who plan to overstay their respective visas.

I'm sure Canada would love to build a wall if we promise to keep Justin Bieber. Back to the budget I suck at math so I am not going to guess at the costs. I can bet though like any other massive government project it's going to go way over budget. I can also say that Trump is not going to get Mexico to pay for this wall and I think he knows it. It was a great sound bite to get himself elected and also provides him with a scapegoat once Americans wise up to how much his precious wall is really going to cost not only to build but to maintain. Our children's children children are going to paying for this thing. And right now he's taking money away from "big bird" which is considered frivilous spending so therefore "Yay! He's taking our taxes back and putting them to important stuff!". This totally ignores all his cuts are to make the FIRST payment on the wall. What is going to be cut for the second installment? The third? Where is hte money going to come from to pay all the guards? Where is the money going to come from to repair the wall over time? How much money are we willing to spend and cut from other areas just so we can crow that we are keeping brown people out? Never mind the wall does nothing to keep people with other skin colors out. Here most of our illegals are Southeast Asian that were trafficked over here and Sudanese that came here legally then went off the grid.
