Again this morning, I woke up to news stories talking about finding Tom Brady's Super Bowl jersey.
I am REALLY bothered as to the amount of resources that went into this. Other than NFL security, Houston police, Texas Rangers and the FBI was involved in tracking the stupid shirt to Mexico.
Am I the only one bothered that so many law enforcement resources went into this?

*Totally Useless Post*
I thought your title was "chasing the skirt" at first..Then I was all like, ooooh, this will be good.
I'm a little disappointed.
But the up shot is that we at least aren't talking about Tom Brady's deflated balls.
There's been no coverage about it here..other than small blurbs on CNN so I am ignorant on the resources that went into finding his jersey.

You're not from New England are you?
Actually, I know you're not. As a big time Patriot fan, I am surprised at the amount of resources. But, the NFL is a big business. I think it's pretty low for a press-credentialed person to use that privilege to steal. I don't believe the jersey is worth that much money either.

Actually, I am from New England as much as any place else, and lived for 5 years in Boston. I really don't care WHO won the Super Bowl, I'd be as bothered if these same resources were used if Russell Wilson of the Seahawks jersey was stolen.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that they went after this more than they even would have for an abducted child. It's a stupid shirt.

I don't know on the surface, yes it seems silly. But if the jersey is worth between $200k and $800k then it starts to seem less silly, then add it the fact that a second jersey of his was also recovered it then seems less silly. Where do you draw the line on what's silly? Dollar value? # of items? How about a violin... should we make that a priority to find? What if it's worth millions? www.fbi.gov/news/stories/the-case-of-the-stolen-stradivariusIt is a THING and only worth what someone will pay for it. You don't see these resources used in trying to find who killed those 2 teenagers in Indiana. It is a stupid priority, regardless of perceived value.

They were told where it was by an informant. It's not like they were out searching miles of terrain with a team of specialized scent dogs for days. But Brady could have just put on another identical jersey, got it all sweaty and said it was the one he wore in the Super Bowl then sell it for 200K. Really, this jersey is no different than any other of his jerseys except he wore it in this game.

It has dropped off the radar in the news though. I guess that's my point. Ever since the theft of the jersey, you heard about it in news blips (I watch probably too much news). It has been weeks since anything has been said about those girls, and I think that the more that it is kept in the public eye, the better. Especially since it looks like law enforcement is going to need tips from the public as to who and where this monster is.

Really, this jersey is no different than any other of his jerseys except he wore it in this game. So it's ok for Brady to defraud people if he ever sold that jersey? Would you get the police involved if someone broke into your house and stole your TV? How about your kid's bike? I mean it's just stuff, right? I'm sure there is something else the police could spend their time on? Seriously? Hell, I had a hard time getting the police to come to my apartment to take a stolen car report! Yeah, I realize that my brand new Mazda is not the same price as a Super Bowl jersey, nor does it have the same appeal but the loss was probably more damaging to my financial health than the jersey to Tom Brady's.

So because you got a crappy response from your local PD, everyone should? Or is it because Brady has more than you that he can take the loss and not do anything about it? But again, if it's just stuff why did you bother calling the police? There are murders, and violence, and rapes that need attention. You and Brady should have just sucked it up and moved on. FTR.. I really don't care about Brady and his jersey, but I don't understand why his theft shouldn't have been investigated? This makes no sense to me. Investigated sure. "ALL OUR RESOURCES?" and national news. No way.

And as far getting things stolen. We have had bikes stolen, and contacted the police to give the serial numbers, but we knew even at the time that it was a one in a million shot that someday they would basically fell into their laps. It's been 15 years now, haven't heard anything.

I'm talking about the disparity of resources used. I never said that the theft should not have been investigated, but this was absurd.

How many people were involved with the investigation? Can't seem to find that information, but supposedly from one source there were a thousand investigations. I have no idea what that means, but I am assuming that this means that they looked at that many different leads? I dunno.

Oh and the tip about the facebook post from the thief saying "Hey I got a Jersey worn in the Superbowl!" This is another thing I don't get. How is it worth anything stolen? Who is going to buy it? And if you're rich enough to fork over 200K for a stolen shirt, who are you ever going to brag to about owning it?

If it was stolen "art" everyone would think it should be investigated. Personally I don't consider it art, but some people might. I might like the shirt to throw darts at, since he beat my team. I don't have anything against the police investigating theft of a valuable piece of history.
It doesn't cost anything to put it "on the news". But it looks like people read the stories, which is what the news wants.
