Just repeal. Don't replace. Remove regulations. Let the market figure it out. 6 years ago, that would have worked. 4 years ago, that would have worked. 2 years ago, that MIGHT have worked (with some "withdrawal pain"). But now... it's too late for that. 50 yrs ago, national health insurance would have worked. Now, there are too many special interests and groups or people that demand special treatment. So, now it's too late for that.

I don't clearly remember, didn't ACA get 20% just for being the middleman? how does a law get 20% of anything?

i guess America is not great enough for the best healthcare system in the world? Sure we can have the best healthcare system in the world! What is best? Is it the best health outcomes regardless of money spent? Is it the best health outcome per dollar spent? Is it providing services for everyone regardless of whether or not they have medical coverage? Is it providing "timely" service for all who have medical coverage? Once we define "best" then we can work towards a solution to meet that definition. I realize I keep hammering on this same point, but it's because I see it as our main problem with finding solutions. There isn't a consensus on WHAT we want to do, so we'll never reach a consensus on WHEN we've met our objective. In this thread alone, there are several different view points on what would be the "best" system. None of them are wrong. Most of them are actually right. But what is the REAL objective? How do we know if we've succeeded or failed in reaching it if we haven't first defined it?

I think it's become "too big to fail" and ripping that open is gonna hurt like hell. But as Lena says, I could be wrong.

No. Because 6 years and 4 years ago, it was still possible to pull out and revert to the old systems, due to the law not being fully enforced. 2 years ago it would still have been possible (but with some withdrawal pains) because it's highly likely that all the old software and other apparatuses might still be recoverable. At this point it's just been too long. It's too entrenched. It's got nothing to do with who it helps or doesn't help. It helps ME, and I still wish they had gotten rid of it when they could.

i am betting this bill goes down in flames on Friday, and takes the administration with it.
you know what this reminds me of? this reminds me of Bush in 2005. anyone remember that?
he took his "public mandate" (in an election that he basically won by, well, Ohio), and tried to privatize SS with that "mandate". it went down in flames. and so did his administration. it took Katrina to seal the deal, tho.
getting this through will require finesse and negotiation. those are two qualities that i don't think our titular leader has in spades.
interested in any other opinions, here.

If I were Ryan I would have already told Trump to go fuck himself. Guess that's why I'm not in politics. WEll, he kind of did.
Made all sorts of changes to the law so it's not recognizable as what Trump said it would be, so Trump isn't getting anything like he promised.

Sounds like a bunch of children. Where is our replacement for the ACA! Wah! Well, considering that's what Trump campaigned on, repealing the ACA, it's a good question.

so why don't they keep voting on it, like they did to repeal the ACA? How many times did they vote on that?

Yup. GOP just withdrew the measure. Not enough support to pass. What a bunch of clowns. Again? Ass clowns.
I thought Trump threw down an ultimatum and they had to vote on it today?

Yup. GOP just withdrew the measure. Not enough support to pass. What a bunch of clowns. I'm extremely disappointed in the GOP.
It's clear that they can't govern effectively and enact any meaningful legislation.
It looks like the best we can get from them is to be a check and balance on democrats and liberals while THEY make the decisions and govern.
I hope they pull their heads out of their asses, there's still time, but they failed their first major test, and perceptions matter.

I guess the only silver lining is that when Obamacare collapses under it's own weight, and it's looking like it'll be sooner rather than later, democrats will be left holding the bag.

The CBO just came out with a new report that Obamacare will not be imploding anytime soon.

If the GOP is smart they will work on what doesn't work under the ACA. I'm sure Democrats will work with them. And we the people will benefit. Maybe they'll remember we the people. They have a sweet health care and don't seem to care about us.

Wouldn't that me so mature. Work with the other party to shore up weak areas and come to some consensus that will actually BENEFIT THEIR EMPLOYERS.
Nevermind.

I'm wondering if Trump is gearing up to throw the Republicans under the bus in case they lose the mid term elections. It's not HIS fault Obamacare is still in place, if the Republicans had listened he wouldn't have needed to spank them by keeping Obamacare.
I'm honestly surprised the most rabbid conservative poster here isn't furious with her party right now and is instead still mocking democrats. They just failed to fulfill one of their biggest promises, one that got many of them elected to begin with.

They have a sweet health care and don't seem to care about us. You've apparently missed many a post that states that the GOP is not there to work with democrats, they were elected to destroy them and everything they stand for. Anyone who takes your approach is a RINO. And that's how we got where we are today. I think it was incredibly stupid of the GOP to try to push thru this bill. Wouldn't it better to take their time, polish their policy and really make it something that will knock people's socks off as opposed to throwing poop at the wall hoping it sticks? Isn't that exactly what they accused the democrats of doing with the ACA?
