Yeah, he eventually calmed down and it was all good. I just found it interesting that Bear who's never growled or bitten another dog in his life was done with him so fast.

Dogs can be just like us, some days they can put up with a lot of BS, others they just don’t want to deal with it. Sounds like Bear was having one of those days.

we took the pups for a walk on the canal, then gave them frozen PB Kongs for treats when we got home. the golden was a little overheated, it definitely helped cool her down. she looks pretty happy. 😁

This is my weekend house guest. Right now she is in survival mode, which is normal behavior for her, and won't eat. Usually by Saturday evening she will start to eat some, but I had to be gone for several hours this morning so we shall see. The kids will be back tomorrow afternoon so either way she will be fine. Even at home she won't eat during the day she waits until everyone is home. I do get lots of kisses when she is here.

Silly me, I didn't push the chair back up to the table, and when I came back inside from the garage I had an Aussie standing on the table.

That's funny Tenn My last German shepherd (rest her soul) ran through the front screen door AND the rear one within hours of adopting her. About three months ago, we rescued another GSD from the SPCA and she is a real character - this girl can run faster than any of my three previous GSD's and shows some signs of some previous training such as law enforcement, military or service dog training (or, she's really really smart - I'll go with that) and is responding well to my additional training. She absolutely loves every person she has met but, at least at this juncture, would rather attack any other dog or small animal rather than just look at them - darn, that's going to take some work
I'd post a picture but don't know how to do it - basic senior citizen issue.

Growing up we had a GSD. Beside chasing squirrels in the backyard (what dog doesn't) she did get along with dogs other than dachshunds. She loathed dachshunds. The folks paid several vet bills for dachshunds she attacked. She must have thought they were giant squirrels. Our GSD made friends with a dog who one time happened to be passing by the house and saw our dog in the backyard. We had no idea where he came from or who owned him. They became such good friends we started letting him into the backyard to stay with her. We named him Butch. They played, napped, and ate their meals together. Some nights he even stayed over night with her and us, the two of them sleeping side-by-side in the den. One morning, as usual, he showed up for the day. Shortly after he arrived, someone was ringing out front door. Mom answered it and it was the visiting dog's owner. She told my mom she always wondered where her dog went during the day and sometimes for several days without coming home. It turned out he lived about 1 1/2 miles away from us. The owner took the dog home and we never say him again. Our dog missed him. So did we. Good to see you posting. Hope all is well.

andi9899 - Checking in to see how things have been going with Macy and Bear. Has she gone after him again? Also, did you find a solution to her pulling on walks? or is that on hold until after you're recovered?
chiver78 - Is the Gentle Leader still working for the Golden?

chiver78 - Is the Gentle Leader still working for the Golden? Macy has not gone after Bear again. She has had some involuntary kennel time for the behavior she was exhibiting. She's gotten a bit better. She's still getting in his way when he tries to eat, but he's allowed to be near me now without WWIII breaking out. As far as the pulling, I'm not going to even attempt to walk these dogs until I've done more healing. Thanks for asking.

chiver78 - Is the Gentle Leader still working for the Golden? it seems to be working well. she barely pulls now if she is wearing it, and only for a short time if she isn't (like walking to the car).

We had major activities up in the heavens last night,, lots of fireworks, lots of thunder. I was looking at the photo of the German Shepherd and the screen door thing, and got to thinking back. Any of you had pups that would "break in" through any possible window or screen door if they were caught outside in a thunderstorm? We have had several.

If we were gone later than expected and forgot to leave a light on, he would try to break down the door or break storm windows to get in. He was a great dog. Our Great Dane would try to hid under the bed during fireworks season. He could really only get his head under . Another great dog. He's been gone 2 weeks

Macy refuses to go out in the rain. She also doesn't like loud noises like thunder and fireworks. She finds a spot in the kitchen which must be the most quiet and basically stays there until it's over.
I know a guy who's dog gets so anxious and scared when it rains that he has to drug him. Same with fireworks. Poor pup.

hugs, mathsplosion. I'm so sorry for your loss. 🥀 LD is part Dane, he does okay with thunder (doesn't happen often around here, anyway) but cannot handle fireworks. I live at the beach, so my windows are basically closed for the two weeks around July 4th. every tourist thinks it's the holiday whatever day they are here, and it's just too much for him.

I'm actually thinking about kenneling the twins this 4th of July. Jackson doesn't mind the fireworks, but I have to keep the twins together. I don't know what would be worse on Macy between fireworks and being separated from Jackson.

I found that leaving the dogs in a room they are used to in the most interior part of the house and playing rock music kept my dogs same years ago. Now, 2 dogs dogs ago I trained my hound dog to not care about fireworks. She passed it onto the puppy who has since passed it into the new puppy. The new puppy panicked the first few days, got scolded, watched the older dog not care and now doesn't twitch either. Which is good as I live near reservation land. Fireworks galore!

The adult dog may be jealous but at least he is considerate of others.

If my dog buddy sees me at my mailbox (about 40 feet from her door) and there is a human in her house to open the door for her, she makes a fuss until someone lets her out to greet me. We have a regular routine. She rushes out, becomes distracted by something, sniffs it, remembers why she came outside, rushes up to me, gives me a kiss, then rolls over at my feet to have her tummy rubbed.
Yesterday, she had had an exhausting day of supervising visiting teenagers (5 boys having snacks and chatting for a while after school), cleaning ladies (the same 2 people who come every week), and then later 2 more younger teenagers playing some kind of board game. She was so run down after having to keep an eye on so many people that when she came out to greet me, she staggered dramatically for a few steps, then lay down and rolled over for her tummy rub about 10 feet from her door. When that didn't work, she jumped up and trotted over to the mailbox as usual when I called her. She's a hoot.
She doesn't like thunder, either, and either clings to her mama (her favorite person on Earth) or curls up in an impossibly tiny ball in a corner of the couch until it is over. Poor sweetie.
