My pets are never in the computer room so I don't have this problem. Any of you?

9 years and 2 days ago, we very unexpectedly lost this handsome boy. (This is the last picture we took of him, about a month before he died.)
Since the entire household was miserable with only a single dog, 9 years ago today, we were back at the shelter and had our hearts stolen

How sweet are they! It sucks to lose a pet. It's great when one picks you.

He's so cute. Macy always has her tongue sticking out of her mouth like that.

And so now the exodus begins.
The puppies had their 8 week checkup and needles yesterday. The size differences are pretty interesting. Molly is 5.9 kg, Toph is 6.9 kg, Lucky and 4 Paws are 7.9 kg and Chewie is 8.5 kg. This is, however, no established hierarchy yet.
Lucky left last night. When DH called about her today, she was sleeping on the couch with her dad.
Chewie goes tonight. Toph might go tomorrow. 4 Paws leaves on Saturday

Any pictures of the 4 before they started to leave? I'll have to check with DH and DD. I haven't had much luck with pictures since about week 3. Chewie just left. If DH is right about where he is from, he drove about 8 hours to get here and he's driving back tonight. I'm hoping he was training in our area and heading back to his home now.

Somewhat. You hope they have long happy lives when their new families but it doesn't always work out that way. We've had involvement with a few being rehomed but mostly they leave and you never hear from them again. I'm still sad for Red Girl. She loved her man the instant he walked into our yard 5.5 years ago. Ill health meant they had to sell their farm last year. They couldn't keep Red Girl. She went a friend and she sees him sometimes but its not the same.

I learned this morning that there is a breed of dog called the English Shepherd. I don't know that I could ever tell it apart from a Border Collie. But the English Shepherd Rescue group made this great chart for helping rescue organizations figure out if they have a Border Collie, English Shepherd, or Aussie. It's interesting overall, but I love the very last line in the "eyes" section..

I like that chart. I'm sending it to Thing 1. Her dog ticks a lot of the aussie boxes. We know mom was a chow and he has the signature purple tongue, but there's definitely something other than chow in there.

The first dog in my post 1861 was an Aussie. In our experience, Aussie's were "squarer" than Borders, and they definitely use different herding methods. They also carry themselves very differently. Moree (and most Aussies, in my experience) are like mountain goats, where as Borders are more like lizards - very slinky in the way they move

Bear has picked up the habit of laying across the back of the couch like Macy does. So now I have a 50 pound and a 70 pound cat.

Moree was a 65lb "cat". He lay on the back of the couch, walked across it, stood on it to greet people... Larry stands on the couch to greet people, but he won't settle there. Junebug, on the other hand, loves to sleep on the back of the couch. She often settles right behind my head. While Snoopy looks nothing like a Beagle to me, the most Beagle thing about him (at least based on my Beagle) was his love of perching on things. Junebug's biggest problem is that her balance is no where near as good as Moree's was, or as good as she thinks it is, and she often falls off of the back of the couch, especially when first trying to get up there.

The dog fur in the house is so bad that, not only did I spend 20 minutes defurring my work sweaters, the black puppy is wearing her mom and sisters' white cast-offs.

Question for you dog lovers...…..Christmas is almost here. Do you put stuff for the pup "under" the tree before Christmas, or wait till Christmas day? Over the years we've had pups that just couldn't wait for Christmas day. (a Pommerpoo for one.....and a Golden Retriever especially if there were snacks in the package) I might add in the case of the Golden....locking edibles in my computer room NEVER worked!! I know, I know, round door nobs would have probably worked better....but "HOW" did he unlock the door? (standard bathroom like lock...not a keyed one)

I'm not sure about English shepherds We have what we call "farm dogs" ... which are collies from herding stock The border collie show dogs are smaller and fluffier Both of my dogs are from herding stock ... and both registered with the kennel club as border collies. So I guess the term "border collie" covers a multitude of sins. There are, however.... Welsh collies and my other dog was one of these......... She was beautiful bright ginger colour.(red, although they are other colours.)and they are quite rare. Then there are rough and smooth lassie type collies and Shetland Sheepdogs which are small

Made a trip to PetSmart today to get presents for my dog buddy and her 4 cat siblings. I always enjoy going to PetSmart as there are usually a few dogs there with their people. Today, I met 3 very sweet, friendly doggies and was allowed to pet them. It was a good day.

I need a new dry dog food. My pup is a 5 year old, 20 pound, miniature labradoodle. He has been eating Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Duck and Sweet Potato Small Breed Bites forever. We top his dry food with a handful of boiled BSCB or browned ground sirloin. He used to eat everything in his bowl. Now he eats around the dry food. I am finding it harder to find stores that carry this dog food line. I also figure he’s bored with the same flavor, but has turned his nose up at other flavors (salmon, chicken, etc.).
I need to stay away from foods that contain eggs, tree nuts, and soy.
I will only buy dog food made in the U.S. with American grown ingredients or made in Canada with Canadian grown ingredients.
I am particularly concerned about recent reports that grain-free dog food isn’t good for dogs. His current food is grain-free, but that’s not necessarily a hill I’ll die on given those studies.
He’s a smaller pup who rejects bigger kibble, so small breed bites are preferable.
Any recommendations? Any cautionary tales? Any experiences with dry foods from Fromme, Arcana, Merrill, orHills?
ETA: Origen?

I would have to check allergens for your boys, but my two are on a blend of two flavors of grain-free* Earthborn Holistic dry kibble. with that, I add shredded BSCB, white or brown rice, and fresh raw veggies. I know that the flavors I rotate come in larger and smaller kibble sizes, and I think there's a small breed variety as well. I shop mostly at a small mom-and-pop pet shop on the Cape, so I don't know what the availability is for this brand at, say, Petco or whatever. I do know I've never seen it at either Walmart or Target.
*the reports I've seen are more toward the "boutique" brands and exotic ingredient foods, not necessarily just the grain free.
