His wife works at a pet store that sells dogs. Not in the store itself, but she's a higher up of a large national chain. I imagine that that's where they got it and likely has something to do with it. I can't say that for sure and didn't want to start a conversation about how you should never buy a dog from a pet store, so I didn't say anything. It likely wouldn't have changed his mind about the places. To be fair it can happen to any dog. We've severely inbred dogs and unfortunately the dogs pay the price. It can also be random chance. The more I learn the more amazed I am anything in nature comes out normal.

Do your dogs burp? The twins do it all the time. Don't get me wrong, it's better than coming out the other end. My GSD never burped. My girl lets out a good belch after every meal. And passes gas constantly. Such a dainty little princess. My old man dog wanted to be burped after every meal. He'd come over after every meal and wouldn't lay down until he'd been patted between the shoulder blades enough to cause a burp. Then he'd go lay down.

YESS!! (and no, this isn't my tale. LD has zero border collie in him) Not Always FriendlyDog-Gone Crazy I own a pair of big black dogs: a border collie mix who weighs about 50 pounds, and a Labrador who weighs over 100 pounds. They’re the sweetest dogs you could ever hope to meet, but like many dogs, they like to rush at the door, barking, whenever anyone comes to visit. Most people who don’t know us, door to door salesmen and the like, only see 150 combined pounds of black fur and teeth coming at them, and jump back. But there was one person… A little old lady was making the rounds of our neighborhood, hanging flyers on door knobs for a dance troupe that performs each year in my town. I saw her coming to my door and tried to grab for my dogs, but missed. They charged at the door, barking their heads off as usual. The little old lady saw them coming, and laughed out loud. With no fear whatsoever, she hung her flyer on my door handle, booped both dogs’ noses through the screen, waved at me, and left. I want to be her when I grow up.

don't let me get in your way or anything lol.... guess they didn't appreciate that I washed my bedding this morning. it is white, and they are mudders, so it all gets bleached.

So Thing 2 told me that yesterday Jackson was outside and barked at a group of kids walking by. They started teasing him as they could see that he was tied up. This caused him to bark more and Thing 2 went out to get him and bring him inside and give them a dirty look while she was at it. She didn't realize that she didn't close the door all the way and Macy ran out the front door down to the sidewalk and barked at the kids that were teasing her brother. The kids got scared and ran away and Macy trotted back up to the house. Mission accomplished. I just love her.

OF COURSE they appreciate it!!! I bet they were the first ones there all snuggled in and enjoying the aroma of fresh clean sheets!! AND sound asleep too....just to distract you from maybe trying to get them to slither off the bed. (We had a black lab and a retriever that were masters at this.)

I was reading an article about Labs. It said that Labs are not very good at guarding jobs. They are said to be non=territorial dogs so one shouldn't expect them to bark non-stop when someone enters your gate even without your permission. The article said they can become over friendly even with strangers. I would agree with this as it applies to humans.....however , our lab always displayed a totally different response if said intruder happened to be a skunk. The article also said you don't need to worry about labs trying to run away from you. It sais "escapeology" is not a problem with this breed. Labs won't go jumping over fences or digging an escape rote under your fence to get out. Again, I agree with two exceptions; (1) a skunk is invoved triggering the "retriever" instinct where the dog is honor bound to bring that skunk back to you, or (2) your children come to visit bringing their Siberian Husky who IS a formidable "escape artist" who some how convinces you Lab that said Husky needs retrieving too......and who dutifully follows the Husky over the fence, under the fence...wherever.

Yes... my Collie girl tucks herself under my arm for a cuddle..... then when I move in to kiss her nose ....."buuuurrrrrrrp" charming I'm sure. Puppy boy makes smells at the other end..... so it could be worse. I'm back at work so both Collies are in daycare. I have noticed a difference in the 6mth pup already. They have a Rottweiler ex breeding bitch who is the matriarch... and puts all the pups into line. She has taught him a few manners this week...and has stopped him going up to other dogs and tugging their fur. Its amazing...I can tell him off until I'm blue in the face (and get nowhere)........ but a timely growl from an older dog solves the problem immediately.

A guy I worked with had his house broken into while he was sleeping. His lab never made a sound.

My sister had her house broken into while they were at work. Her Dobermans let the thief in, but they didn't let him leave.
He was cowering on the couch and crying when they got home.

That happened to DH's cousin, with one minor difference. Dumbass broke into a cop's home and the dog was a K9 in training. He got some practice that day.

Schools on. Backpacks abound right now. Last night I Overheard a mama dog telling her pups: "We're eating dinner soon. Don't fill up on homework!"

Hey gang! Have any of you had, know somebody who has or had, or have any information on a Leonburger? How are they around kids? are they the stay around you type or an escape artist?

I've read some stuff on them too. I was trying to see if anyone had any first hand experience with them. I find their pictures intriguing. (my wife prefers lap puppies of a much, much, smaller size so I would need considerable positive ammunition to get consideration for one of these)

I couldn't sleep, so I am watching the movie Hachi and crying throughout the movie because I know how it ends.

I just ran across this on another site. Today is National Puppy Mill Awareness Day. Every time I think about those it tends to rain on my parade.

question for you pup parents - should I be looking for things that LD might be getting into? or something food-related in particular?
this morning, I woke up to LD horking up something while he was curled up on my bed at my feet. there turned out to be nothing actually on my quilt. but, when I came home tonight and actually turned on the tv in the living room to catch the end of the Sox game, I noticed a spot of something spit up on one of the throw pillows. I wiped it up easily enough, but what's causing that??

I know from our pups if they run across something that upsets them they will, if let outside, snarf up a bunch of grass that will make them throw up.
