from the article
For nearly 17 months on the campaign trail, Trump did what no American politician had attempted in a generation, with defiant flair. Instead of painting a bright vision for a unified future, he magnified the divisions of the present, inspiring new levels of anger and fear within his country. Whatever you think of the man, this much is undeniable: he uncovered an opportunity others didn’t believe existed, the last, greatest deal for a 21st century salesman. The national press, the late-night comics, the elected leaders, the donors, the corporate chiefs and a sitting President who prematurely dropped his mic—they all believed he was just taking the country for a ride.

President-Elect Trump was certainly the most talked-about person this year

I'll give him credit for proving the ideal that "anyone" can become president in this country.

Could've fooled me with all of the ugly language coming out of some of the fan base of the GOP. I haven't heard the word "c*nt" spewing out of the mouths of so many people in YEARS. This election REALLY brought out the ugly side of some people. So much for a civilized campaign, based on the issues...

No, but the GOP candidate set the tone. I hope we NEVER see such ugliness in future elections, but unfortunately, the bar was set at the lowest level ever.

I just view it as the ugly was always there. He just brought it out into the open. Whether this is a good or bad thing remains to be seen. Kind of like Obama riling up the race relations back to like it was in the 1960's Good/bad?

I admit the primary was a disaster. i also admit that Hillary and the Dems tried to knee cap him in the fall election. NBC sat on the Billy Bush tape for months waiting for the right time to destroy him for Hillary, bringing sex back into the race. As far as penis and clitoris, it was not about that. It was the dems totally ignoring the working class democrat and letting Trump win them over.....a multi billionaire who screwed the working class in life over the years, and yet became their hero today because the dems have lied to them for decades. It's the economy. How freaking hard is it for everyone to get that?

If anyone bothered reading the opening statement on Trump by Time, it was such a backhanded rip at him, it was shameful. Not only that, his picture juxtoposed with the Time title on the cover, made it look like he had horns....... Imagine how Hillary would have been portrayed by them has she won.

Hillary didn't even win yet she has gotten the 'horns' twice in the past. So did Bill: Maybe Time Magazine should change the name of the magazine so it doesn't have an 'M' in the name.

I did not think Hillary would. I believe just like success has many factors, so does failure.
I do think sex was a factor. More than a few women in various articles and TV interviews were mad about Hillary not being nicer to women her husband Bill harassed or had consensual affairs with. But apparently were quite OK with having a double standard of caring less that Donald and Bill did not treat some women well. Only grabbing them in the whatever slowed the slide. But then Comey to the rescue followed up with lies about pedophilia, the one thing considered worse than raping women. The latter two turned the tide IMO.

I think part of the problem for Hillary also was the fact that the big three ABC, CBS, and NBC, were putting so much time into negative reporting on Trump that a lot of people just stopped paying attention to it along with her similar personal attacks on him at the end, while he went back on message. Strategy, or just luck of the timing ?

It's not uncommon to have dictators (and dicks) on the cover as Man of the Year. Osama bin Laden was considered. And how will the Trump presidency be good for the entire world? I know he will make the price of produce go up for me. It's already very high. Thanks, Trump!

Understandable as an empowered male member of the species. Didn't Hillary make an issue of being the first "female" president in several pre-election rallies? No complaints about that ?
