A week after the election, Trump hasn't yet held a press conference, the longest any recent president has waited to speak to the press. That continues a weeks-long drought that's been going on since mid-summer, when Trump last answered questions from the press.

Trump has also refused to travel with the press corps since the election, a continuation of his campaign practice of flying in a separate plane from the media that covered him.

The media covering the president-elect have also not yet been offered briefings on his transition efforts, which was a typical practice for past presidents that allowed the public to keep apprised of the details of the new government.

"Our new president is a great family man who chooses family time over time with reporters".

The press ran story after story on the emails.  (They aren't reporting much on Pence's attempts to hide HIS though).  They ran the false story that Comey had reopened the investigation;  then, later walked that back.  

Anything other than fawning adulation by the press is perceived by him (and apparently some of his supporters) as bias.   " So Unfair!"

It's the job of the press to get the facts and to get them out there without resorting to a false equivalency.  The media failed that one. The press is one of the reasons he won the EVC.

I had read that and personally felt no biggie....guy wanted to have a private / semi public but with other diners , steak dinner with family...So what.

As far as no reporters allowed in..thats the business decision and a high style restaurnt such as this one has a obligation to it's customers for privacy..no public pictures..

I guess if there was a table open..they wanted to pool their resources..figuring wouldn't be able to afford the place on their own salarys, and had say two or four have dinner and observe the President  elect  table..possible snape a picture with the phone camera from afar but done quietly..with the understanding if observed, caught..they would still be libel for their orders but removed from the premises.. Well as far as it being a "business" decision.  He is not supposed to be a business man.  He is POTUS-Elect.  There are norms about the PE (for short) and press.

well the man is going to be the POTUS..it's part of the shtick and the soon to be former POTUS and family was fair game for eight years,,stories by the opposition I remember..

when he was visiting Asian countries..supposedly..[not true by the way] half our sea going navy was diverted to area for security..

when first lady went on vacation..supposedly..[again not true] whole hotel wing rented out for her friends and herself..

When presidential limo got stuck in British courtyard..it was made to seem this was the fault of the one guy who hadn't driven himself..[not allowed] in years, the President...and every Golf game played by the man, from oppositions viewpoint, a wast of time, to costly for the country, showed how bad the man was in governing.

The press that has been proven not merely to be biased, but to actually be in the tank for, working for, coordinating with, and choreographing 'events' with the DNC in such a way as to make the late Joseph Goebels blush. Yeah- I wouldn't simply ditch them. I would CUT THEM OUT altogether.

I understand your upsetness with the media..believing they are too liberal..or at least favor anyone but the Donald..

However as a reguler listener of CNN and agree they tend to lean left..yet during the election process , I witnessed when the Donald made a whistle stop, normal same old, same old speech in pawdunk wherever..they broadcast the WHOLE GD speech , every word..every gesture..millions and millions of $ of free TV coverage and afterwards..and I was watching..just commentary..no dissing of..[ I was dissing the sleeze but they wearn't]...

Guess I kind of saw this differently.  Yes, CNN covered all of DJT's whistle stop campaigning.  I believe they also covered all of HRC's similar activities.  (Well, I saw many of her stops, so I will give them credit for covering the campaigning evenhandedly.)  Is the big difference really due to the number of events?  I heard/read/saw (too much has gone on for me to remember where right now) that DJT did many more campaign events than HRC did.  If that's the case and news channels are going to cover the campaign stops, then DJT would automatically get more TV time for free.  HRC could have received more time if she had done more events, couldn't she?

Well seeing as how they nitpicked everything Obama did, from the colour of the drapes when he was being sworn in, to his jeans, to how his children signed Christmas cards to how he rode a bike to how he threw a ball to his choice of dog, Trump isn't getting off easy.

I'll give Trump a break now.  He's just been elected, and the life that he had is coming to an end. He's doesn't officially become president until January 20th.

So I'll chalk this up to him not thinking about the fact that what was an everyday occurrence to him before is no longer acceptable now.  But, starting on January 20th?  All bets are off.

And to be honest, I think he wanted to go out to dinner because he needed the public interaction.  He needed people in a room that he didn't know praising him.  I think he needs his ego stroked regularly and by a large variety of people.  He will learn soon enough that those days are now gone.

There is a subtle difference between the two.  The thread title states that the ditching of the press is the lack of transparency.  The headline, supported by the article, does not indicate that it is the dinner that is lack of transparency but one of the indicators.  I agree with emma1420 that he deserves a break on the dinner.  But the article includes additional reasons for concern.  That is why I recommend reading the entire article.

I think Fox News Sunday is a relatively fair show that tries to present both sides (despite the fact that I find Fox News, in general, to be a deeply partisan news source).  I also think the same of the State of the Union with Jake Tapper (even though CNN sucks at new coverage, period).  So I think there are decent reporters out there, they aren't heard over the din of the seven million pundits.

I think Fareed Zakaria is a great one to watch on Sunday..definitly leans left..definitly was not a Donald fan but did a good job explaining why what happened happened and admitted didn't have a clue about the middle of the country and the disatisfaction of so many..took the blame for that...
